Stittsville defeated WC Electric 5-0 to take a two game to none
lead in the best-of-five GOFL semi-final series in game 2 on Tuesday night.
A nice crowd was on hand in Fitzroy Harbour to watch the game,
which was played in beautiful late summer conditions.
Dan Bradley had yet another complete game win for the 56ers,
scattering six hits for the shutout and once again showing excellent control by
walking none and striking out fourteen.
With Bud Hanlon on the bench due to a shoulder injury, Brad Porter
went the distance for the home team and pitched well, allowing three earned
runs on five hits, three walks and nine strikeouts.
Stittsville opened the scoring with a Mike Barrett solo homerun in
the top of the third.
After a single by Michael Cavanagh, his second of the game, and an
infield single by Jon Daley, WC Electric threatened with base runners on second
and third with one out in the bottom of the third, but could not get the run
across.
With the score a tight 1-0 margin after five complete, a series of
three consecutive errors by WC Electric in the sixth resulted in two more
Stittsville runs. John Craig and Scott
Herriott both reached on errors, and a misplayed fly ball off the bat of Dan
Jessiman resulted in two runs scoring.
Stittsville finished the scoring with two more runs in the seventh. Darren Ladouceur led off the inning wit a
walk, was sacrificed to second by Rob Rattray and brought in on an RBI double
by Craig. Craig subsequently scored on an
RBI single by Scott Herriott.
Neil Murphy and Todd Clouthier had doubles for the home team. Troy Wilson also had a single to lead off
the sixth inning, but Bradley struck out the next six batters he faced to seal
the victory. WC Electric had the lead
off batter reach safely in three innings (first, second, sixth) but failed to
get the run across.
Game three is Wednesday September 6 in Stittsville at 8:30PM.
