Stittsville defeated WC Electric 6-1 to open the best-of-five GOFL semi-final series in Stittsville on Wednesday night.

Dan Bradley had the complete game win for Stittsville, throwing a three hitter and showing excellent control by walking none and striking out eleven.

Bud Hanlon had the start for Fitzroy and went two innings before giving way to Brad Porter.  Porter threw into the sixth inning, before Hanlon re-entered when Porter began to have shoulder trouble.  Hanlon threw a total of 2 2/3 innings, allowing three earned runs, five hits, walking one and striking out three.  Porter threw 3 1/3 innings, allowing two earned runs, four hits, walking two and striking out seven.

Stittsville struck early with three runs in the first, with a two run homer by Dan Jessiman and and an RBI single by Dan Preston.

In the third, a Dan Jessiman double followed by a Dan Preston single scored another run to put the 56ers up 4-0.

WC Electric responded with a Neil Murphy solo home run in the top of the fifth.

But Stittsville added another run in the bottom of the fifth as Dan Jessiman hit a single, advanced to second on an error and was subsequently brought in on yet another Dan Preston single.

The 56ers added an insurance run in the sixth when Scott Jessiman drove in Scott Parsons to cap the scoring at 6-1.

Michael Cavanagh made a couple of excellent catches at shortstop for Fitzroy in a losing effort.

Game two goes after the long weekend on Tuesday September 5th in Fitzroy at 8:30PM.
