Game Report from Shawn Williams:

Wednesday, May 17th was the first meeting in the Greater Ottawa Fastball League between local rivals, West Carleton Hanna Electric and Carp I4C Victory in Fitzroy Harbour with the visitors coming out ahead by a 6-3 score.

Pete Petit lead the offensive attack for Carp, going 2-4 with a triple and a three run homer.  Petit had four RBI’s on the night and has now gone 5-8 with one home run and seven RBI’s in the first two games of the season.  On the night, Carp scored its six runs with three in the first and three in the third.  The Victory had 10 hits and seven of nine batters reached base in the game.  Neil Cooke pitched a complete game for the Victory scattering four hits over seven innings, giving up two earned runs and striking out 13.  Cooke got the win, his first of the season (1-0), while Mark Wright took the loss for Fitzroy Harbour.

Fitzroy Harbour scored one unearned run in the second and two in the fourth.  Bud Hanlon relieved Mark Wright in the third and was later relieved by Brad Porter in the sixth.

After the game, Carp Head Coach and General Manager Shawn Williams commented on the win.  “Neil pitched a great game for us tonight.  He was in control and seemed to get stronger as the game went on.  Despite giving up two runs in the fourth, he still managed to strike out the side and then comes back in the fifth and strikes out the side again.”  When talking about the team’s defensive effort on Wednesday night Williams said, “We were better this week than last week.  The defence will come.  Kevin McGuire made three or four great plays at shortstop that lead to outs and kept runners off base.  He has tremendous range.”

Carp’s next game is Wednesday, May 24th in Stittsville versus the Team Easton Thunder featuring former Canadian National Senior Men’s and Pan Am Gold Medalist, Randy Peck of Wakefield, QU.  Peck is also a former member of the Carp Valley Pride.  Game time is 8:30 PM at newly refurbished Alexander Grove Park in Stittsville.

Fitzroy Harbour will host the ISC II Qualifier from June 16-18 in Fitzroy Harbour.  With 14 confirmed entries to the tournament, games will be played in both Fitzroy Harbour and Stittsville.  The winner will represent Eastern Ontario at the ISC II Tournament of Champions to be held in Kitchener, Ontario in August, 2006.
