MICKSBURG - The Micksburg Twins took the opening game in the Upper Ottawa Valley Men’s Fastball League playoffs with the Campbell’s Bay Royals Tuesday night, giving them an early lead in the best-of-seven series.

In what is becoming a familiar story this season, Twins Corey Costello pitched another strong game to help lead his team to an 8-0 victory and topped it off with a home run late in the contest.

Jamie Mick also stepped up, hitting a two-run homer and earning two more RBIs to cap a stellar performance in front of the home crowd which filled the stands to capacity and beyond.

The scoring started in the bottom of the first inning.

Brad Steege singled, then stole two bases to put himself in scoring position on third base. Jamie Mick then singled to first to bring him home.

After Costello shut down the Royals in the second inning, Jerry McIntyre bunted to reach first base, then travelled to second on a sacrifice bunt by Kevin Humphries. Reaching third base, J. McIntyre was brought in by another McIntyre, Barry, with a base hit. That doubled Micksburg’s lead 2-0.
