Twins take game one in fastball league playoffs

Micksburg – The Micksburg Twins took advantage of several Beachburg throwing
errors for a 6-4 win in game one of the Upper Ottawa Valley Men’s Fastball
League playoffs Wednesday night.
Trailing by two runs, the Twins rallied in the second inning scoring five runs
on five hits after Beachburg made throwing errors to first base.
Jerry McIntyre got things started for Micksburg
when he reached base with a bunt single and then scored on Kevin Humphries’ RBI
double to left.
After Brent McIntyre struck out, Joran Graham reached first after a wild throw
to first and Barry McIntyre also reached base on a throwing error.
With the bases loaded and two out, Brad Steege lashed a two-RBI double and
Jamey Mick beat out a close play at first for a single that cashed in two more
runs.
In the sixth inning, Beachburg got two more runs to get to within one.
Matt Collins led off with a walk and Brian Pilon followed with a bunt single.
With one out, Dave Costello slapped a two-RBI single up the middle to cut the Micksburg lead to just one.
The Twins answered in the home half of the sixth inning on Brad Steege’s RBI
single.
Beachburg took an early lead with a pair of runs in the second inning.
To start the visitors half of the second, Justin Regier singled and Collins
drew a walk, Pilon dropped a sacrifice bunt to move the runners into scoring
position.
After Darren Regier was fanned, Dave Costello ripped an RBI single to score
Justin Regier and Collins.
For the Twins, Graham went five innings, giving up two runs on five hits and
striking out three batters.
Dwight Mick came into the game in the fifth, surrendering two runs on two hits
and fanning five.
For Beachburg, Shawn Costello pitched the complete game, giving up five runs on
six hits and striking out eight.
Game two of the Beachburg-Micksburg
best-of-five series goes Friday night at 8 p.m. in Beachburg and game three is
set for 8:30 p.m. Wednesday night in Micksburg.
The other semifinal series between Campbell’s Bay and Shawville gets underway
Thursday Aug. 11 at 8 p.m. in Bryson. Game two of that series will be 8 p.m.
Tuesday Aug. 16 in Shawville and game three will be Thursday Aug. 18 at 8 p.m.
in Bryson, Quebec.
