The
UOVMFL is a competitive Intermediate-level fastball league, located in eastern
Ontario and western Quebec.
The
league for 2004 consists of five full-time teams, and one affiliate member:

· October 5,
2004: Blair Setford, ISC II
commissioner, has announced final Ontario rankings
for intermediate fastball. The
Micksburg Twins finish the season ranked 5th in the province. Kemptville Thunder end up at ninth place.
· October 4,
2004: Two other leagues
in eastern Ontario have declared champions.
Kanata Team Easton defeated Fitzroy Harbour WC Electric (an affiliate
team with the UOVMFL) 3 games to 1 in the best-of-five Kemptville area league
final to repeat as champions. Dan
Konkle won three games for Team Easton; Big Bud Hanlon won one game for
Fitzroy. Shawville Hursty’s Bar
catcher Todd Fraser also plays for Team Easton, as do John and Randy Peck. In
the Loughborough
league final for the Kingston area, the Kingston Cowboys defeated the
Enterprise 401 Automall 4 games to 1 in the best of seven final to repeat as
champions.
· September
27, 2004: The Kemptville area league
finals are underway. Fitzroy Harbour WC
Electric are facing Kanata Team Easton in the best-of-five final. The series is currently tied 1 game
apiece. Game 3 will be played on Weds
September 29 in Stittsville at 8PM.
Game 4 and 5 are tentatively scheduled for Mon Oct 4 at 8PM in Fitzroy
Harbour and Wed Oct 6 at 8PM in Stittsville.

24, 2004: Thanks to all that visited this website and watch here for
area fastball news over the winter. In
the two seasons that this site has been on the Internet, there have been 4956
hits to date on the home page – a pretty impressive total. If any teams are thinking about joining the
UOVMFL for 2005, contact the “commish” Barclay Bramburger at (613) 687-7592.
· September
23, 2004: The Micksburg Twins
have reclaimed the league playoff title with a 4-1 series victory over
Shawville. Corey Costello had all four
victories for the Twins, and Mark Wright had the sole win for Shawville. This marks the fourth time in five years
that Micksburg has won the league title.
Congratulations to Jerry McIntyre and the Twins on an excellent season.

9, 2004: The final series
dates for the first three games have been set.
· September
8, 2004: Two other area
fastball leagues, the North
Leeds Fastball league and the Ottawa RA league have
completed their seasons. In North
Leeds, Seeley’s Bay won the
regular season title and defeated Newboro Rideau Insurance 3
games to 1 in the final. In the Ottawa
RA league, the Ottawa Valley Raiders won the regular season title and went on
to defeat the Atlantic Storm in the final.
Bud Hanlon of Fitzroy Harbour WC Electric also pitches for the Valley
Raiders.

7, 2004: Micksburg defeats
Beachburg in the semi-finals 4 games to 1.
All games in this series were very close, and low scoring with no team
scoring more than 3 runs in a game.
Micksburg will now face Shawville in the UOVMFL final.
· September
6, 2004: The Upper Ottawa
Valley league has been invited to select a team for the Ontario
ISC II Challenge Cup next season.
This tournament features representatives from intermediate leagues
across the province. This qualifying
tournament will be held in late August 2005, with the winner gaining an
automatic berth into the 2006 ISC II Tournament of Champions, which will be
held in Kitchener, Ontario. The ISC II
Tournament of Champions, in which the Kemptville Thunder participated in 2003
and 2004, features the best intermediate level fastball teams from across North
America.
· September
6, 2004: For fans of Al’s
Fastball, be sure to visit the temporary site while
Escribe is being repaired.
· September
5, 2004: The fundraising day
in Micksburg is a huge success, as hundreds of fans gather to help raise money
for Steve Wren. On the field, the
Fitzroy Harbour WC Electric won 11-5 over the
Twins in an exhibition fastball game.

3, 2004: Shawville Hursty’s
Bar defeats the Campbell’s Bay Royals 4 games to 1 in the semi-finals. Shawville advances to the final and awaits
the winner of the Micksburg-Beachburg series.
The Twins lead that semi-final series 3 games to 1.
· September
2, 2004: A reminder to all fastball fans in the area about the
fundraising event in Micksburg on Sunday September 5. Action starts at 2:30PM and runs all afternoon and into the
evening. See Al’s

· August 30,
2004: The Minesing
Masters fastball team is looking for some players to compete in the Canadian Masters
Tournament in Cobourg, ON. If you
are a pitcher that is 40 or older or a position player 35 or older and are
interested in playing, contact Steve Courtemanche at 800-787-8059.
· August 29,
2004: Micksburg Twins win
their third tournament of the year with a 4-0 record in the Fitzroy Harbour
tournament. The Twins beat the Fitzroy
Harbour WC Electric (3-2) in a rain-shortened final to take the title. Shawn Costello led the way with three
pitching victories and three home runs.
Campbell’s Bay Royals, who had some players from Shawville Hursty’s,
finished with a 0-3 record. Full Results.
· August 22,
2004: Micksburg Twins win
the eight-team McNab Tournament with a win in the “A” finals over the Pontiac
Bucks. Next up for the Twins is the
Fitzroy Harbour tournament on August 27-29.
Campbell’s Bay and Fitzroy Harbour are also entered. Here is the draw for the Fitzroy
tournament.
· August 19,
2004: Kemptville Thunder
loses to Appleton, Wisconsin in the playoff round at the ISC II tournament in
North Dakota and is eliminated. The Thunder finished in the top 16 of 35 teams,
with a 3-2 record.
· August 16,
2004: Todd Fraser of Shawville, picked up by the Kemptville
Thunder for the ISC-II
championship tournament in Fargo, North Dakota is leading the team offensively
with two home runs and four RBI in two games.
The Thunder has a 1-1 record.
· August 9,
2004: The first round of
the playoffs will begin with 4th place Beachburg facing 5th
place CFB Petawawa in a best of 3 series.
· August 8,
2004: The Campbell’s Bay
Royals win the “C” Championship in the Niagara Falls
tournament with a 3-2 record.
· August 7,
2004: The Micksburg Twins
defeated the Kemptville Thunder 1-0 in an exhibition game between the top two
Intermediate teams in Eastern Ontario.
Corey Costello had the pitching victory and drove in the winning run.
· August 3,
2004: On the Labour Day weekend, Sunday September 5, the
Micksburg Twins will be hosting a fundraising event in Micksburg for teammate
Steve Wren who is suffering from cancer.
The highlight of the day will be a fastball game at 6:00PM between the
Twins and the Fitzroy Harbour West Carleton Electric. A large crowd is anticipated for the event and local fastball fans
are encouraged to attend to support this worthy cause. Watch this website and the Pembroke Daily
Observer for further details about this event.

2004: The August rankings
for Ontario Intermediate Fastball have been released. The Micksburg Twins rate “honourable mention” but have fallen out
of the top 10. The Kemptville Thunder
are ranked #2 in the province.

2004: Arnprior has again
expressed an interest about joining the UOVMFL for next season. The Arnprior team currently plays in the
McNab men’s fastball league. They will be entering the Fitzroy Harbour
tournament at the end of August, as will the Campbell’s Bay Royals and the
Micksburg Twins.
· July 13,
2004: The July ISC-II
rankings for North America have been released – an area team, the
Kemptville Thunder, remain on top at #1, garnering a total of 8 of a possible
11 first place votes. Only teams
entering ISC-II play-downs are now eligible so Micksburg Twins are no longer
ranked.
· July 12,
2004: The Toronto Champion
Indians won the Campbell’s Bay
Bash eight-team double-knockout tournament defeating the Micksburg Twins
two times to win the title. Micksburg
finished with a 3-2 record. Campbell’s
Bay Royals finished with a 1-2 record, and Shawville Hursty’s Bar finished with
a 0-2 record.
· July 9,
2004: New rankings
for Ontario Intermediate Fastball have been published. Micksburg Twins return to the rankings in
the #7 position on the strength of their win at Shawville. Kemptville Thunder
retain their #1 ranking.
· July 7,
2004: The draw for Bay Bash 2004

· July 5,
2004: Micksburg Twins won the seven-team Shawville tournament,
defeating the Pontiac Bucks team from the Ottawa RA League in the final.

Campbell’s Bay on May 26th sees a total of eight home runs in a 10-8

2004: The draw
has been made for the twelve-team Stittsville 56ers tournament. Three teams from the UOVMFL are entered:
Campbell’s Bay, Micksburg, CFB Petawawa plus Fitzroy Harbour.
· May 24,
2004: Fitzroy Harbour WC
Electric finished 7th of 12 teams in the Kingston tournament with a
1-1-1 record. The Peterborough Ricart
Pros won the final game over the Kemptville Thunder. Micksburg Twins won this tourney in 2003 but did not participate
this year.
· May 7, 2004: The
Pembroke Observer features an article on the
start of the UOVMFL season.
· May 7, 2004: The official schedule for the season has been
released and is now posted. The season will consist of each league team
playing other league teams 3 times for a total of 12 games. In addition, each team will play affiliate
member Fitzroy Harbour once for a total of 13 games. Fitzroy Harbour will be competing full-time in the Kemptville Men’s
Fastball League.
· May 1, 2004: The pre-season rankings for Ontario
Intermediate fastball have been released.
The Micksburg Twins are ranked #5 in the province. The Kemptville Thunder are ranked #1 (and
also ranked #1 in North America).
· April 22,
2004: CFB Petawawa has
now indicated they will be re-entering the league and will be present at the
meeting.
· April 16,
2004: Pembroke will not
be fielding a team this year.
· Oct 9, 2003: Final Ontario Intermediate Men’s
rankings have been released for 2003.
Micksburg was ranked #8 based on their wins in the Kingston tourney, the
Campbell’s Bay tourney and their strong showing at the Intermediate
Eliminations. Another local team, the
Kemptville Thunder were ranked tied #9.
Beachburg was also given mention as the UOVMFL champions.
· Sep 29,
2003: Beachburg wins the
playoff championship with a 3-0 series sweep over the Campbell’s Bay Royals.
