The Kemptville Area Men’s Fastball League is a competitive Intermediate-level fastball league, located in eastern Ontario.

·       October 5, 2004:  Thanks to all that visited this website during the 2004 season.  In just one season of fastball, from May to early October, this home page has had 3782 hits.  Keep visiting this site over the winter as it will be updated as any news becomes available.  Any teams in the area interested in joining the league for 2005 should contact Bob Templeton at (613) 258-5230 to discuss.  There has already been interest from Carp and Blackburn about potentially joining the league.

 

·       October 5, 2004:  Blair Setford, ISC II commissioner, has announced final Ontario rankings for intermediate fastball.  Kemptville Thunder end up at ninth place in the province.  The Micksburg Twins of the Upper Valley league finish the season ranked 5th in the province.

 

·       October 5, 2004:  Kanata Team Easton repeats as champions, with a 3-1 victory in Game 4 over Fitzroy Harbour WC Electric.

 

·       October 4, 2004:  Some “history” of the league has been added.

 

·       October 4, 2004:  The Kingston Cowboys repeat as the champions of the Loughborough Fastball League in the Kingston area with a 4 games to 1 final series win over Enterprise 401 Automall.

·       September 23, 2004:  The Micksburg Twins won the Upper Ottawa Valley Men’s Fastball League with a 4 games to 1 series victory over Shawville Hursty’s Bar. Pitcher Corey Costello had a perfect 8-0 record in the playoffs for the Twins.

 

·       September 21, 2004:  The two teams for the finals are determined.  Kanata Team Easton beat Stittsville 56ers 3 games to 1.  Fitzroy Harbour WC Electric won the decisive game 5 in Manotick to defeat Lomor Printers 3 games to 2.  Kanata and Fitzroy Harbour will play a best-of-five series to determine the league champions.

 

·       September 20, 2004: By virtue of their tournament victory in North Bay, the Manotick Lomor Printers team was ranked in the Ontario Masters Fastball rankings at number #7.

 

·       September 13, 2004:  The Manotick Lomor Printers make it two weekends in a row, with a victory in Williamsburg at the seven-team double-knockout tournament.  Manotick defeated Blackburn Bombers in the final.  Dave Nicholson was named top pitcher and Bobby Jack Hart was named top player.

 

·       September 8, 2004:  Two other area fastball leagues, the North Leeds Fastball league and the Ottawa RA league have completed their seasons.  In North Leeds, Seeley’s Bay won the regular season title and defeated Newboro Rideau Insurance 3 games to 1 in the final.  In the Ottawa RA league, the Ottawa Valley Raiders won the regular season title and went on to defeat the Atlantic Storm in the final.  Bud Hanlon of Fitzroy Harbour WC Electric and Rob Soublier of the Kemptville Macton Muckdogs also play for the Valley Raiders.

 

·       September 7, 2004:  Congratulations to the Manotick Lomor Printers who went 7-0 and captured the 18th annual Senior (Masters) Fastball Tournament in North Bay over the Labour Day weekend.  Manotick won each of their last four games in their final at bat.  This 32-team tournament featured some of the best players in Ontario aged 35 and older (pitchers 40 +).  Lomor defeated the Cold Spring Cats, who finished third at the provincials, but a score of 3-2 in the final, with Don Cox scoring the winning run on a wild pitch in the bottom of the final inning.  Mike “Pudge” Branchaud was named player of the game in the final.  This article appeared on the baytoday.ca website.

 

·       September 6, 2004:  The Kemptville league has been invited to select a team for the Ontario ISC II Challenge Cup next season.  This tournament features representatives from intermediate leagues across the province.  This qualifying tournament will be held in late August 2005, with the winner gaining an automatic berth into the 2006 ISC II Tournament of Champions, which will be held in Kitchener, Ontario.  The ISC II Tournament of Champions, in which the Kemptville Thunder participated in 2003 and 2004, features the best intermediate level fastball teams from across North America. 

 

·       September 5, 2004:  The fundraising day in Micksburg is a huge success, as hundreds of fans gather to help raise money for Steve Wren.  On the field, the Fitzroy Harbour WC Electric won 11-5 over the Twins in an exhibition fastball game.

 

·       September 2, 2004: A reminder to all fastball fans in the area about the fundraising event in Micksburg on Sunday September 5.  Action starts at 2:30PM and runs all afternoon and into the evening.  See Al’s Fastball (Temporary site Archive) for some more information.

 

·       August 29, 2004:  The Micksburg Twins (4-0) win the seven-team Fitzroy Harbour tournament in a rain-shortened final over the Fitzroy Harbour WC Electric (3-2).  Shawn Costello leads the way with three pitching victories and three home runs for Micksburg.  The Stittsville 56ers (2-2) finish third, with a great effort from Scott Herriott with two home runs and two pitching victories, including a 10-inning victory over Manotick Lomor Printers (1-3 – sixth place). ·       August 26, 2004:  Stittsville 56ers captain and catcher Sam Oliver will be participating in the Canadian Senior Men’s National Championship in Ste. Croix Nova Scotia.  Sam will be playing for Labatt’s Grumpy Stump from his native Newfoundland.  Randy Peck of Team Easton will also be participating in this tournament as the Jarvis Merchants team representing Ontario picked him up.  Congratulations also to Don Kennedy (Ottawa) and Steve Bedard (Cobourg) for being selected to umpire at the Nationals.

 

·       August 23, 2004:  The draw for the Fitzroy Harbour Tournament is now available, based on the current committed seven teams. Fitzroy Harbour WC Electric, Stittsville 56ers and Manotick Lomor Printers are all participating.

 

·       August 22, 2004:  The playoffs will begin this week.  Fourth place Fitzroy Harbour WC Electric will play fifth place Kemptville Macton Muckdogs in a best-of-three to determine who will play first place Manotick Lomor Printers in the semi-finals.  Second place Kanata Team Easton will play third place Stittsville 56ers in the other semi-final, a best-of-five series.

 

·       August 22, 2004:  Fitzroy Harbour pitcher/outfielder Jason Armstrong helps the Micksburg Twins to a tournament win at the McNab Tournament.

 

·       August 19, 2004:  Kemptville Thunder loses their game versus Appleton 5-0.  Dan Konkle throws a 3-hitter with 18 strikeouts but still takes a loss.  The Thunder finishes the ISC-II tournament of champions with a 3-2 record.  Kemptville roster for the tournament is listed on the ISC Website.

 

·       August 19, 2004:  Due to their pool play record, Kemptville Thunder received a bye to play in the round of sixteen with their finish in pool play.  All games are single elimination from this point.  They will play #21 Appleton, WI at Noon Central time on Thursday Aug 19.  If the win this game, they move to the quarterfinals at 6:00PM Central time Thursday.

 

·       August 18, 2004:  Kemptville Thunder win a close game over #30 Yakima, WA by a score of 3-2.  Pete Johnston of the Muckdogs had a 3-run home run for the Thunder.  Dan Bradley had the pitching win.  This victory means that Kemptville finishes second in Pool B.

 

·       August 18, 2004:  Kyle Jamieson of the 56ers who works in the states, is playing in the Fargo tournament for the #4 Orr Park Knights of Orrville, Ohio.  KJ hit a home run in the Knights 10-7 victory over #11 Elburn, Illinois.

 

·       August 17, 2004:  Kemtpville Thunder win big over #32 Dubuque, IA by a score of 11-0 with 14 hits in the mercy rule 5-inning game.  Dan Bradley (56ers) had the pitching win and combined with Brad Porter (Muckdogs) for a no-hitter.   Bruce Buckland of the Muckdogs had a home run and two RBIs.  Greg McMillan of the 56ers also had a home run.

 

·       August 16, 2004:  Kemptville Thunder won one and lost one in the first day of competition at the ISC II tournament in Fargo, ND. The Thunder lost to #17 Fargo, ND Chub’s Pub 5-4, then defeated #26 Denmark, WI by a score of 4-0.  Todd Fraser of Team Easton has two home runs and four RBI in the first two games.  Dan Konkle was the pitcher of record for both the loss and the win.

 

·       August 15, 2004:  Lefty pitcher Trevor Lahey from Lomor helps lead the Greenbush Generals to a victory at the Newboro intermediate tournament.  The Generals defeated the North Fred Kings in the final game to take the title.

 

·       August 15, 2004:  Fitzroy Harbour WC Electric finish a disappointing 0-2 at the OASA Men’s C ten-team provincial tournament with a 3-1 loss to Lake Simcoe Lightning and a 5-4 loss to the Ingersoll Centennials.

 

·       August 11, 2004:  Kemptville Macton Muckdogs pitcher Brad Porter helped the Elkland, PA fastball team to a third place finish at the National Softball Assocation (NSA) “World Series” in Salem, Virginia on the Aug 7th weekend.  There were 29 teams that took part in this tournament.

 

·       August 8, 2004:  Kemptville Thunder played two exhibition games as preparation for their trip to the ISC II tournament.  On Friday August 6, the Thunder made the trek up to play the Micksburg Twins in front of about 200 fans.  In the battle of the top two teams in Eastern Ontario, the Twins prevailed with a victory by a score of 1-0.  Corey Costello had the pitching victory and batted in the game winning run in the first inning.  Dan Bradley pitched for the Thunder.  On Sunday August 8, the Thunder hosted the Fitzroy Harbour WC Electric in Kemptville.  This time the bats came alive for Kemptville and they scored a 12-2 win, which included 3 home runs in the second inning.  Dan Bradley had the three-hit pitching victory.  Jason Armstrong and Troy Wilson shared pitching duties for the Electric with #1 pitcher Bud Hanlon out of town at the Niagara Falls tournament.

 

·       August 6, 2004:  The ISC has announced that some games at the ISC II tournament in North Dakota will be broadcast over the Internet.  The Thunder game on August 15th will be broadcast. See Al’s page for details.

·       August 4, 2004:  Kanata Team Easton pitcher Dan Konkle helps the Quaker Riversharks to a tournament victory in Lebanon, Pennsylvania.

 

·       August 3, 2004:  Before departing for the ISC II Tournament of Champions in Fargo, North Dakota, the Kemptville Thunder will play two exhibition games as tune-ups: Friday evening August 6 in Micksburg versus the Twins and Sunday August 8 in Kemptville at 2:00PM against the Fitzroy Harbour West Carleton Electric.

 

·       August 3, 2004:  The August rankings for Ontario Intermediate Fastball have been released.  For the first time since the beginning of the season, the Kemptville Thunder moved out of top spot, down to #2 in the rankings, behind the elimination tournament winners, the Stouffville Mennos.

·       July 13, 2004: The July ISC-II rankings for North America have been released – Kemptville Thunder remain on top at #1, garnering a total of 8 of a possible 11 first place votes.  Only teams entering ISC-II play-downs are now eligible to be ranked.

 

·       July 12, 2004:  Lomor Printers competed in the 42nd annual Ausuable Forks tournament in upstate New York and finished with a 2-2 record.  The tournament was won by the ISC World #12 team, Heflin Builders.

 

·       July 12, 2004: The Toronto Champion Indians won the Campbell’s Bay Bash eight-team double-knockout tournament defeating the Micksburg Twins.  Team Easton finished third with a 3-2 record.  The Macton Muckdogs finished fourth with a 2-2 record.

 

·       July 11, 2004:  Twelve teams will be participating at the OASA Men’s C 2004 provincial tournament in Wiarton, including the Fitzroy Harbour WC Electric.   Blackburn will also be participating.  The other 10 teams will be Lake Simcoe Lightening, Linwood Chiefs, Highgate Rock (honourable mention Ontario July 9 rankings), Toanche Eagles, Port Elgin Blue Devils (#5 Ontario July 9 rankings), Bobcaygeon, Chepstow Aces, Ingersoll Centenials, Kingston Frontenac Cyclones (honourable mention Ontario July 9 rankings), and Wiarton Busmen.

 

·       July 9, 2004:  New rankings for Ontario Intermediate Fastball have been published.  With their win at Blackburn, the Kemptville Thunder continues with the #1 ranking in the province.  Micksburg Twins of the Upper Valley league are back in the rankings at #7.

·       June 30, 2004: Dan Konkle of Team Easton pitches a no-hitter in a 3-0 victory over the Stittsville 56ers.

 

·       June 28, 2004:  The Kemptville Thunder won the Blackburn Men’s Fastball tournament with a 5-0 record, defeating Navan (with Dave Nicholson pitching from Manotick Lomor Printers) in the final by a score of 5-0.  Fitzroy Harbour WC Electric finished 1-2, including losing a 4-3 game to the Thunder.  Stittsville 56ers finished 2-1, winning their first two games but losing in the playoff round to Team Nish from the Ottawa RA league.

 

·       June 21, 2004:  The Kemptville Thunder retain their #1 ranking for Ontario Intermediate fastball as per the results released June 21 by ISC II commissioner Blair Setford.

 

·       June 21, 2004:  The draw has been announced for the Blackburn tournament on the weekend of June 25-27.  Fitzroy Harbour WC Electric, Stittsville 56ers and Kemptville Thunder are all entered.  NOTE: Draw revised as of June 22, 2004.

 

·       June 14, 2004: The Kemptville Thunder lose in the semi-finals of the eight team Jim Bradford Classic Tournament in Baltimore, Ontario.  Once again, the Thunder ran into ISC World team Peterborough Ricart Pros, who beat them 6-2 in the playoff round.  Kemptville also lost in extra innings to the Ricart Pros in the round robin.  Peterborough defeated the Cobourg Stingers (host of the OASA Men’s A) in the finals.  The Stittsville 56ers also competed at this tournament.

 

·       June 10, 2004: The June rankings for North American ISC II fastball have been released.  The Kemptville Thunder have retained their #1 continental ranking. The Micksburg Twins of the Upper Valley league have made an appearance tied at 22nd with a team from Tennessee.

·       June 3, 2004:  The June rankings for Ontario Intermediate fastball have been released by ISC II Ontario Commissioner Blair Setford.  The Kemptville Thunder have retained their #1 ranking, based on their second place showing at Kingston (losing to ISC World team Peterborough Ricart Pros), and league teams Team Easton & the Macton Muckdogs making it to the final in Stittsville. The Micksburg Twins of the Upper Ottawa Valley league are ranked at #8 in the province. 

 

·       June 3, 2004:  Fitzroy Harbour WC Electric pitcher “Big Bud” Hanlon faces the minimum number of batters (21) in a 0-0 tie with the Stittsville 56ers.  Hanlon threw a one-hitter with 11 strikeouts with the only 56ers base runner getting into a double play in the 5th.  However, Stittsville’s Kyle Jamieson also shut down the opposition in this pitcher’s duel, throwing a two-hitter with 11 strikeouts.  The game took only 70 minutes for a full seven innings.

 

·       June 2, 2004: Kanata Team Easton won the Stittsville tournament, defeating Kemptville Macton Muckdogs in the final.  Manotick Lomor Printers finished tied for third, losing in the semi-finals to Team Easton.  Fitzroy Harbour WC Electric and Stittsville 56ers both lost in the quarterfinals of this eleven-team tournament.

 

·       May 25, 2004:  The draw has been made for the Stittsville 56ers tournament.  All five league teams will be participating, along with three teams from the Upper Ottawa Valley league, one from the Blackburn league, one from the Ottawa RA league, a team from southern Ontario and a team from northern Quebec to round out the field of twelve.

 

·       May 24, 2004:  Kemptville Thunder finished 2nd at the Kingston Cowboys tournament held on the May long weekend in Sydenham.  The Thunder lost in the final of the twelve-team tournament to the Peterborough Ricart Pros.  Fitzroy Harbour WC Electric also entered the tournament and finished 7th with a 1-1-1 record.

 

·       May 19, 2004:  Left-hander Trevor Lahey (Lomor Printers) throws a no-hitter against the 56’ers in a 3-0 Manotick victory at Stittsville.  Lahey had 14 strikeouts and only three walks over seven innings.

 

·       May 7, 2004:  League pitcher Dan Konkle (Team Easton) plays well in a Senior tournament down in Maryland, USA with the Quaker Riversharks from Pennsylvania.

 

·       May 7, 2004:  The schedule has been finalized.  Each member team will play two home games and two away games against the other league teams for a total of 16 games.  Each team will play out of their own diamond, with the exception of Kanata Team Easton who will play home games starting June 16 in Stittsville.

 

·       May 1, 2004:  Pre-season rankings for Ontario Intermediate fastball teams have been released.  Kemptville Thunder tournament team is ranked #1 in Ontario, and the Stittsville 56’ers get honourable mention.  Another Eastern Ontario team, the Micksburg Twins of the Upper Ottawa Valley Men’s Fastball League are ranked #5.

 

·       April 28, 2004:  Kemptville Thunder tournament team ranked #1 in North America pre-season rankings for ISC II teams.

 

·       April 10, 2004:  Fitzroy Harbour has confirmed they will join the league for the 2004 season.

 

·       March 8, 2004:  First league meeting confirmed participation of Kemptville, Stittsville, Kanata and Manotick.  Fitzroy Harbour is interested and will inform the league ASAP if they are joining.  Carp had previously indicated an interest but will not be fielding a team in 2004.  There was also discussion of a possible team in Carleton Place, but no representative at the meeting.
