David Rankine: Illumination artist, David's voyage into Celtic art began while at Art School (York university) albeit surreptitiously, since Celtic Art was viewed as a purely decorative art form. David sensed right away that there was more to it. At that time he was already immersed in Celtic music and dance and to him the intricate patterning, rhythm within rhythm, and sense of fluid circular movement made sense. After a number of years painting in the Celtic style, David came to realize that the "controlled chaos" apparent in Celtic art reflects the Celtic world view - that of constant change, the interconnected and interdependent nature of all life, and the transmutability of form, matter and energy.
