Gérard 19-10-1927 to 6-5-1979

by Rébecca

Gérard Bandet Gérard was a family man, spent 21 years in the RCAF, was a bugler, loved the aircraft he worked on as an aeroengine mechanic, very honest and hardworking and a jack of all trades. He always was fair and wanted the best for his family and friends. He loved music and sang for years in the church choir and Centennial Singers. He had many true friends, and never complained about his work load.

He worked for McMillan Bloedel for ten years as camp Handyman, Industrial First Aid and Ambulance driver. He was a Heavy Duty Mechanic and used all his skills widely and wisely. He was a very determined individual.

When he got sick, the doctor gave him two to six weeks to live. He replied "If that's what the Lord wants, He knows what he's doing". He went on Leatril and back to work for four months to get the camp organized so they would know where the gas lines, etc were located, until he was too sick to carry on, and came home to die.

He lived for thirteen months. In the meantime we visited all the family, flew to Montreal to see his brother that he hadn't seen for twenty some odd years (in Feb. the coldest winter Quebec had seen in some fifty years). He was very sick and never complained. He died May 6, 1979. He has been mourned by all who knew him, especially his wife and children.

Gérard's funeral Mass,

as chosen by him.

Entrance hymn:
Alleluia: The Strife is O'er 1. The strife is o'er, the battle is done; Now is the victor's triumph won; O let the song of praise be sung. Alleluia(3) 2. On the third morn he rose again, Glorious in majesty to reign; O let us swell the joyful strain: Alleluia(3) 3. O risen Lord, all praise to thee Who from our sin hast set us free That we may live eternally. Alleluia(3)
The Kyrie, Gloria, Credo, Sanctus, and Agnus Dei were in latin, of the Mass of the Angels, which we all know so well
First Reading:

Jonah, Ch. 3: And the word of the Lord came to Jonah the second time, saying: "Arise, and go to Ninive the great city: and preach in it the preaching that I bid thee". And Jonah arose and went to Ninive, according to the word of the Lord. Now, Ninive was a great city of three days' journey. And Jonah began to enter into the city one day's journey: and he cried, and said: "Yet forty days, and Ninive shall be destroyed."

And the men of Ninive believed in God: and they proclaimed a fast and put on sackcloth, and sat in ashes. And he caused it to be proclaimed and published in Ninive from the mouth of the king and of his princes, saying: "Let neither men nor beasts, oxen nor sheep, taste anyghing; let them not feed nor drink water. And let men and beasts be covered with sackcloth, and cry to the Lord with all their stength, and let them turn everyone from his evil way, and from the iniquity that is in their hands. Who can tell if God will turn, and forgive; and will turn away from his fierce anger, and we shall not perish?"

And God saw their works, that they were turned from their evil way; and God had mercy with regard to the evil which He had said that He would do to them, and He did it not.

Second Reading:

Matthew, 7: 1-11 Do not judge, that you may not be judged. For with what judgment you judge, you shall be judged; and with what measure you measure, it shall be measured to you. But why dost thou see the speck in thy brother's eye and yet dost not consider the beam in thy own eye? Or how canst thou say to thy brother, "Let me cast out the speck from thy eye" and behold, there is a beam in thy own eye? Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam from thy own eye, and then thou wilt see clearly to cast out the speck from thy brother's eye. Do not give to dogs what is holy, neither cast your pearls before swine, or they will trample them under their feet and turn and tear you.

Ask, and it shall be given you: seek, and you shall find; knock and it shall be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives; and what man is there among you, who, if his son asks him for a loaf, will hand him a stone; or if he asks for a fish, will had him a serpent? Therefore if you, evil as you are, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good things to those who ask him!

Therefore all that you wish men to do to you, even so do you to them; for this is the Law and the Prophets.

PSALM 22 (23)

The Lord is my shepherd; nothing shall I want; in verdant pastures he gives me repose.
1. To waters of peace He leads me and there He refreshes my soul. He leads me along safe paths for He is true to His name.
2. Though I should walk in the valley of darkness, no evil shall I fear; with rod and staff you are near me, with these you give me comfort.
3.You spread a banquet before me within the sight of my foes; You anoint my head with oil, my cup is overflowing.
4. Surely goodness and kindness shall follow me all the days of my life; I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever and ever more.
5.Give glory to the Father almighty, to Christ, His beloved Son; to the Spirit who guides the Church both now and forever. Amen.

Offertory Hymn
1. Accept, Almighty Father, This gift of bread and wine Which now thy priest does offer to Thee To thee, O God benign In humble reparation For failings and sins dread, To win life everlasting For living and for dead.

2. O god, by this comingling Of water and of wine, May he who took our nature Give us his life divine, Come, thou who makest holy, And bless this sacrifice; Then shall our gift be pleasing To thee above the skies.

COMMUNION HYMNS: #3 Alleluia
1. Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia. 2. Jesus is lord, Jesus is lord, Jesus is lord, Jesus is lord. 3. My redeemer, my redeemer, my redeemer, my redeemer. 4. Come, Lord Jesus; come Lord Jesus; come Lord Jesus; come Lord Jesus.
I AM THE BREAD OF LIFE
1. I am the bread of life; He who comes to me shall not hunger. He who believes in me shall not thirst. No one can come to me unless the Father draw him. Ref: AND I WILL RAISE HIM UP (3) ON THE LAST DAY.
2. The bread that I will give is my flesh for the life of the world, And he who eats of this bread, he shall live forever, He shall live forever! AND I WILL RAISE HIM UP ON THE LAST DAY.
3. Unless you eat of the flesh of the Son of Man, and drink of His blood, and drink of His blood, you shall not have life within you. AND I WILL RAISE HIM UP (3) ON THE LAST DAY
4. I am the resurrection, I am the life; he who believes in me, even if he die, he shall live forever. AND I WILL RAISE HIM UP (3) ON THE LAST DAY
5. Yes, Lord, I believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God, who has come into the world! AND IF WILL RAISE HIM UP (3) ON THE LAST DAY.

Farewell Hymn MAKE ME A CHANNEL OF YOUR PEACE (Prayer of St. Francis)
1. Make me a channel of Your peace; Where there is hatred, let me bring your love. Where there is injury, your pardon, Lord. And where there's doubt, true faith in You. Oh, Master, grant that I may never seek so much to be consoled as to console, to be understood as to understand to be loved as to love with all my soul.
2. Make me a channel of Your peace; Where there's despair in life, let me bring hope Where there is darkness only light, And where there's sadness, ever joy.
3. Make me a channel of Your peace; It is in pardoning that we are pardoned, in giving to all men that we receive, and in dying that we're born to eternal life.
