CENTENAIRE BANDET 1905-2005

C'était vraiment beau de voir près de 300 personnes (N.B. d'après un rapport sérieux - plus de 300) réunies dans
l'arène de Prud'homme les 6 et 7 août 2005 pour célébrer
le centenaire de l'arrivée de leurs Ancêtres Joseph Auguste Bandet
et ses cinq enfants à Prud'homme Sask. par le train,le 28 mai 1905.
Ils avaient quitté leur beau pays: la France ainsi que tout ce
qui leur était cher pour s'exiler afin d'avoir liberté de
pratiquer leur religion et d'avoir le catéchisme à l'école.
Ses cinq enfants étaient Victorine, Caroline, Henri, Clémentine,
et Simplice. Une, l'ainée, Germaine, mariée était demeurée en France
bien malade et mourut très peu apràs leur arrivèe au Canada.
Les organisateurs de cette belle rencontre, qui méritent d'être
félicité et louangé sont: Auguste Bandet, Jeanne Rocher, Vivianne
Lesko, Gisèle Dubé, et Alain Neault. Ce dernier, pour des raisons
personnelles n'a seulement que débuté et a du laisser les autres
finir le travail. Et il y en a eu du travail!! Tous ceux qui sont
venus les remercient et demandent au Seigneur de les bénir en
retour. Les cuisiniers aussi doivent être félicités pour la
façon dont ils ont servit et nourrit la foule. C'était bien bon!
Tous les descendants Bandet présents, 3e à la 6e générations
eurent l'occasion de rencontrer des cousins pour la 1ère fois
et de se connaître et de visiter. Il y a même eu deux cousins
venus de France: Andrée Bandet et son époux Daniel Combaz.
Puis d'autres sont venus des États Unis, même un de l'Australie
et tous les autres d'un bout à l'autre du Canada. Ils pouvaient
visiter à certains moments le "homestead" de leurs Ancêtres
Bandet et Louis et Paul Bandet se remplaçaient pour le faire
voir aux visiteurs. Le Cimetière aussi a eu plusieurs visites
car quatre pionniers y sont enterrés; Joseph Auguste Bandet,
Victorine, Henri, et Simplice. Le Musé Providence a aussi eu
des visiteurs et Cora Poilièvre y était présente à certaines
heures pour accueillir et répondre aux questions.
Grand Merci à toutes ces personnes qui aidaient d'une façon ou
d'une autre.
Le samedi soir il y eu une courte présentation. C'est Jeanne Rocher qui nous présenta Victorine, l'aînée représentée par Kathryn Bertoncini, puis Caroline représentée par Alicia Lévèsque. Elles chantèrent "Le Petit Mousse": Chant qu'elles aimaient beaucoup. Puis ce fut au tour de Henri
représenté par son descendant Mathieu Bandet. Lui aussi avait une belle voix!
Puis Jean Marie Bandet continua la présentation: Clémentine représentée par Lisa Lévèsque était également douée d'une douce voix tout comme son frère Henri. Ils chantèrent "Le Petit Grégoire".
Simplice, le plus jeune de la famille, représenté par Mario Lepage se joignait toujours aux autres membres de la famille quand ils chantaient et ils chantaient souvent!!
Le chef de la Famille Bandet: Joseph Auguste était représenté par Bernard Marchildon. Lui et ses enfants étaient habillés comme il y a 100 ans et ce fut le beau travail de Rolande Bandet de les vêtir ainsi.
Après la présentation tous chantèrent "O Canada" en Français. La version Anglaise n'existait pas encore à ce temps là. A la suite il y eu quelques présentations amateur qui furent bien appréciés.
Dimanche 7 août 2005 paroissiens et descendants Bandet remplirent l'Église de Prud'homme bien avant 10.30 a.m. Comme la veille, à l'arène, le maître de cérémonie était Auguste Bandet. Les deux premiers bancs à droite en avant étaient occupés par trois Filles de la Providence représentants les premières religieuses qui vinrent à Prud'homme en 1905. Elles étaient Soeur St Victor, Sr St Germain et Sr St Philippe représentées par Janelle Peiszak, Brigitte Hounjet et Lisa Poirier. Aussi Mlle Hélène Dejoie au côte des religieuses. Celle-ci etait représentée par Janelle Lévèsque. Mlle Dejoie a été une grande bienfaitrice de la Paroisse et est arrivée à Prud'homme deux jours après les pionniers Bandet le 30 mai 1905. Le 2me banc était occupé par les représentants des Pionniers Bandet. Une difference: Henri etait représenté par Norman Hounjet.
Jeanne Rocher adressa l'assenblée: "Bonjour, et bienvenue à cette célébration Eucharistique à l'occasion du Centenaire Bandet dans cette belle Église. Merci au curé L'abbé Jean Marc Mireau et a Sr Marguerite Dumont pour leur aide les derniers mois. Merci aux paroissiens de nous avoir permis de partager cette célébration avec eux."
Jean Marie Bandet à son tour présenta les pionniers Bandet. "Plusieurs de la 4e et 5e génération ont gracieusement accepté de représenter les pionniers arrivés a Howell il y a cent ans. Joseph Auguste Bandet était representé par Bernard Marchildon 4me génération.
"Chers Paroissiens de Prud'homme, Je vous félicite pour la façon généreuse, dont vous soutenez, supportez et encouragez votre Curé, et pour ce que vous faites si bien, pour l'entretien de votre si belle église, et pour l'entretien du cimetière. Mes bien Chers Descendants, J'ai quitté ma Belle France pour m'exiler au Canada -terre de froid et de neige: pour donner à mes descendants, la liberté de Foi Catholique, et la religion dans ses écoles - choses qui nous étaient enlevés en France. J'espère que vous appréciez ces libertés, et surtout que vous en profitez. Je veux vous dire: 'Aimez vous les uns les autres. Ne faites pas aux autres, ce que vous n'aimeriez pas qu'on vous fasse à vous même.'"
Kathryn Bertoncini: "Bonjour: C'est un grand plaisir de représenter l'ainée de la famille: Victorine. En temps que bras droit de son père devenu veuf avant leurs départ de France pour le Canada, Victorine devenait la première responsable de la famille en l'absence périodique de leur père. Elle a sûrement une belle récompense parmis la famille présentement, là-haut." Plus tard Victorine épousa François Hounjet.
Alicia Lévèsque: "Bonjour je représente Caroline. Bien qu'elle était un peut timide, elle aimait chanter. Je suis aussi comme elle et sans doute, elle nous sourit de là-haut." Caroline épousa Moïse Marcotte.
Norman Hounjet: "Cela me plait beaucoup de représenter l'aîné des garçons chez nos ancêtres venus de France. Soit disant que Henri a passé une bonne partie de sa vie au bon entretien de cette belle petite cathédrale d'aujourd'hui dans une ambiance de joie et de vouloir servir. Peut-après leur arrivée la famille Bandet fut accueillit par leurs voisins: la famille Adélard Marcotte qui habitait a un kilomètre à l'est, et les deux ainées, Victorine et Caroline ont beneficié énormément des bons conseils de Mme Adélard Marcotte." Quelques années plus tard Henri épousa Jeanne Gilliard.
Lisa Lévèsque: "Bonjour! Il parait que Clémentine la plus jeune des filles chez nos pionniers que j'ai grand plaisir de représenter aujourd'hui aimait beaucoup la lecture et le chant. Je suis de même, et bien que j'ai les avantages sociaux qui n'existaient pas au début du siècle, j'ose croire qu'elle était aussi heureuse." Plus tard elle épousa Florian Montès.
Mario Lepage: "Bonjour! C'est bien ça, je suis le représentant de mon arrière grand père Simplice et le plus jeune de ma famille tout comme lui. A l'arène, hier soir, on ne m'a pas permis de parler, alors que ce matin, on me donne carte blanche - Donc-- Voilà: d'après mes recherches, mon arrière grand père Simplice a passé une partie de sa vie à chanter au jubé dans cette église. Il est fort probable qu'il fait partit de la grande Chorale de St Pierre - là-haut."
Auguste Bandet invita alors la foule à se saluer en attendant que la messe commence. Puis il souhaita la bienvenue à notre Berger Diocesain Mgr Albert LeGatt et aux deux prètres assistants tous deux descendants Bandet: Les Abbés Maurice Lévèsque et Yves Marchildon. La messe commença et la chorale dirigée par Jérôme Lafrenière assisté de sa fille Nicole avec Novia Proulx à l'orgue nous fit entendre du beau chant grégorien du passé: Régina Bull proclama la 1ère lecture en français et sa soeur Thérèse Lévèsque la 2me en anglais.
L'Évangile fut proclamée par l'Abbé Yves Marchildon.
Mgr Albert LeGatt sut nous faire une belle homélie comme il sait toujours le faire.
Sr Henriette Bandet donna les intentions.
A l'issue de la messe tous les paroissiens et descendants furent invités à s'approcher en avant et à regarder vers le jubé pour une magnifique photo et derrière la camera l'ont voyait Trevor Yager. Puis lui-meme Trevor descendit pour se joindre à la foule pour une autre photo.
Tel fut une rencontre de Centenaire inoubliable!!
BANDET CENTENNIAL 1905-2005

It was really nice to see nearly 300 descendants (N.B. from a reliable source, more than 300) present in the Arena in Prud'homme, Sask. the 6th and 7th of August 2005, to celebrate the Centennial of the arrival of their Ancestors Joseph Auguste Bandet and his five children in Prud'homme, by train, May 28th, 1905. The children were Victorine, Caroline, Henri, Clémentine and Simplice. They had left their beautiful country "France" to come to Canada in order to have freedom to practise their Faith and have religion taught in the schools.
The organizers for this beautiful week-end were: Auguste Bandet, Jeanne Rocher, Vivianne Lesko, Gisèle Dubé and Alain Neault. Alain, for personal reasons had to withdraw. And there was a lot of work!! All those who came thank them and ask the Lord to bless them in return. The cooks also have to be congratulated for the way they served the crowd. And the food was Great!
All the descendants who came - 3rd to 6th generation - had the chance to meet cousins that they had never met and get acquainted. There were cousins that even came from France: Andrée Bandet and her husband Daniel Combaz. Everyone was so happy to get to know them! There were some that came from the United States, one from Australia and all the others from one end to the other of our beautiful country: Canada! What a happy gathering!! And we had beautiful weather!
There were times set so that those who wished could visit our ancestors' homestead guided by Louis or Paul Bandet. Then, the graveyard had many visitors because four of the Bandet pioneers rest in it: Joseph August Bandet, Victorine, Henri and Simplice.
Many descendants were also able to visit the Providence Museum which was open at certain times with Cora Poilièvre who was always there to answer questions. Thanks a lot to all who helped in so many ways to make the weekend so agreeable.
Saturday evening there was a short presentation. Jeanne Rocher presented Victorine, the eldest of the Bandet family. She was represented by Kathryn Bertoncini. Then Caroline was represented by Alicia Lévèsque. They sang the song "Le Petit Mousse" they loved so well. Then Henri was represented by his descendant Mathieu Bandet.
Jean Marie Bandet continued the presentation: Clémentine represented by Lisa Lévèsque. "Le Petit Grégoire" was sung. Then Simplice, the yougest of the family represented by Mario Lepage. The head of the family Joseph Auguste Bandet was represented by Bernard Marchildon. They were all dressed in the way people did 100 year ago thanks to Rolande Bandet.
After the presentation everyone joined in singing "O Canada". Then there were some amateur numbers to end the evening.
Sunday August 7th 2005 parishioners and the Bandet descendants filled the Sts Donatien and Rogatien Church way before 10.30 a.m. As on Saturday evening the Master of Ceremony was Auguste Bandet. The two front pews on the right were occupied by three Daughters of Providence representing Sr St Victor, Sr St Germain and Sr St Philippe. They were Janelle Peiszak, Brigitte Hounjet and Lisa Poirier. Also Miss Hélène Dejoie represented by Janelle Lévèsque. Miss Dejoie was a benefactress of the Parish. She arrived in 1905, two days after the Bandets. In the 2nd pew were our Pioneers. The only difference from the previous night was that Henri was represented by Norman Hounjet.
Jeanne Rocher adressed the assembly:
"Good morning and welcome to this Eucharistic Celebration in this beautiful church. On behalf of the celebration team organizers, may we express our sincere gratitude to all the parishioners of this parish for the use of your church today.
We are also grateful to L'Abbé Jean Marc Mireau and Sr Marguerite Dumont for their assistance as of a few months ago."
Jean Marie Bandet presented the Bandet Pioneers:
"Several 4th and 5th generation family members have graciously accepted to represent our pioneers to Howell a century ago, and we wish to introduce them to you at this time. Pioneer Joseph Auguste is represented by 4th generation Bernard Marchildon." Bernard went on to relate his version of what pioneer Joseph Auguste Bandet would most likely wish to remind us today.
"Dear Parishioners of Prud'homme, I congratulate you for your generous way you support and encourage your pastor and for the way you do so well to upkeep your nice church and the cemetery.
My dear Descendants, Love one another. Do not do to others what you would not like them do to you. Keep in mind the message from our late Holy Father John Paul: 'Do not be afraid. Do not be afraid to promote love and peace.' Always be prepared for your death. Imagine that you are before the throne of God. Will you say: 'Unless heaven is like this, like that, I won't come in'? Or, will you say: 'My Lord, I want to spend eternity, singing your praises.'"
Jean Marie Bandet then presented Victorine represented by Kathryn Bertoncini who stood up facing the assembly and said: "It is a pleasure for me to represent the eldest of the family of Joseph Auguste." Prior to the Bandet's departure to Canada, Victorine became her widowed father's right hand in raising her brothers and sisters. She was the first responsible in the absence of her father. She must have a nice place with the family in heaven. She later married François Hounjet."
Then Jean Marie presented Alicia Lévèsque who stood up also: "Good morning, I am pleased to represent Caroline who assisted Victorine with the family necessities, and while radios and T.V.'s were non existent, singing was quite popular Most everyone sang. Some say Caroline was timid - I am a little like her. Without doubt she is smiling at us in heaven. Caroline later married Moïse Marcotte."
Jeanne Rocher presented Norman Hounjet representing Henri, the eldest boy who was 15 yrs old. Henri was not one to make waves, but rather congenial, sympathetic towards everyone. Norman stood up facing the assembly and said: "Good morning! I am very pleased to represent Henri the oldest of the boys. He did spend part of his life to the upkeep of this small cathedral in a spirit of joy to be able to serve. A little after the arrival of the Bandet family, they were wecomed by the Adélard Marcotte family who lived a kilometre east of their homestead. Madame Adélard Marcotte's counsels were greatly appreciated by Victorine and Caroline. Henri later married Jeanne Gilliard."
Jean Marie Bandet presented Lisa Lévèsque representing Clémentine. She also stood up and said: "Good Morning! I heard that the youngest daughter of our pioneer family enjoyed reading and singing. I do also love very much singing and reading. Clémentine later married Florian Montès."
Jean Marie Bandet also presented Mario Lepage representing the youngest of the family: Simplice. He stood up and said: "Good morning: I am also the youngest of my family just like the one I have the pleasure to represent today. At the Arena last night I did not have permission to speak, and this morning I can, so - According to my reasearch my great grand father Simplice did spend part of his life singing in the choir loft of this church. Most probably he is now a member of St Peter's choir in heaven. It is said that he would often mention how very important were the contributions by choir director and choir accompanist. Today is no exception, so, we join to say thank you to our choir leader, Jérôme Lafrenière assisted by his daughter Nicole and choir accompanist, at the keyboard Mrs Novia Proulx. To all past and presnt choir members and accompanists, we say a most heart-felt thank you for your devotion towards all past and present parishioners."
Auguste Bandet invited all the assembly to greet each other while waiting for the mass to begin. Then he welcomed our diocesan Shepherd Bishop Albert LeGatt with the two priests: Abbé Maurice Lévèsque and Abbé Yves Marchildon, both Bandet descendants. Then the celebration began. Régina Bull proclaimed the first reading in French and her sister Thérèse Lévèsque the second reading in English.
The Gospel was read by l'Abbé yves Marchildon.
Bishop LeGatt gave a very nice homily as he always does.
Sr Henriette Bandet gave the intentions.
At the closing of the mass all the parishioners and descendants were invited to move to the front of the church to be included in the video from the choir loft by Trevor Yager. Then Trevor came to be included in a second photo.
All agreed that this was a great, once in a lifetime experience!
An unforgettable Centennial!
