Image IS everything!

What is IMAGE

Last tip I wrote about your Corporate BRAND, and this week it’s about your IMAGE. What is the difference? The Brand incorporates not only the surface appearance but also how the entity acts and reacts. IMAGE on the other hand is about what people perceive. Your image in the public eye will determine whether you are favored, thought of in certain circumstances or not, determine the quality level associated with your services or products and in short define the ranking of your BRAND. Reality is not the issue with IMAGE, perception is. Develop a good presentation of your IMAGE and you will profit from it. If you have a good IMAGE with your customers, then guard it carefully for it is far easier to destroy it than to build it up.

Defining Our IMAGE

Like a personal BRAND our IMAGE is defined by the feelings we inspire in others through the personal management and marketing of our IMAGE. Think about a professional, how would they present themselves – dressing neatly, tastefully and appropriately will inspire trust. Remember, that your customers will be investing some of their hard earned dollars in your and your products, we want to send the message that we are successful and have the ability to handle their work.

When we present to our clients whether as a retail store, service bureau or face-to-face our “accessories” too need to be dressed neatly, tastefully and appropriately. What this means is that our facility needs to “look good”, our portfolio needs to be “tastefully put together” and presented well, our samples need to be in excellent condition and hand picked to show the best we can do. Little can turn off a potential buyer faster than poor samples in poor condition presented by a person dressed in clothes that look like they’ve been slept in for a week!

Even our stationary is important. Business cards are the first item our prospects often see if we are meeting them for the first time. They need to be well done, designed and in good condition. Hand it over to your prospect as if it is worth something because it is. Stationary needs to communicate too, by the quality of it as well as the quality on it. Our letters, resumes, envelopes and so on need to be letter and typographically perfect when they are sent out. Spelling errors are not acceptable, typographic errors distract from the message and the content.

In the case of a facility that clients come to make sure that it is neat, the garbage picked up, the tables clean, the windows clean and so on. It is your IMAGE to manage, and you can decide what it will look like. Same thing goes for our cars. Have you every stepped into a car that was filthy with last weeks lunch wrappers, smelt bad and had dirty windows? Did it inspire confidence?
