A CHRISTMAS PRAYER
Marie Louise Chang
C |
hristmas is a time when we think of PEACE and GOOD WILL. These two virtues are more important than ever during these troubled times. Your Executive Committee prays and calls upon Mary, Queen of Peace, to intercede for all Maryknollers and for the people of our time that we may walk in the way of peace. As believers, we understand peace is a gift of God. This belief prompts us to pray constantly, personally and communally.
May the newborn Christ Child bless you all, and grant you
and your loved ones,
Peace of mind
Peace in our days
Peace to our souls
Peace to families
Peace to our country
Peace among nations
May He grant us Good Will among ourselves and all peoples of the world.
May you all have a Holy, Happy, Healthy and Contented New
Year
Dear Friends of the Maryknoll Sisters:
MSS and MCS former students, families and friends will once again gather to give thanks and celebrate the Maryknoll Sisters education work in Hong Kong. On April 5, 2003, at the Granite Club in Toronto, friends will gather at the For-Ever-Green Gala to raise funds for the care of our beloved sisters.
The Maryknoll Sisters perform missionary work worldwide. In Hong Kong they founded two schools Maryknoll Convent School (MCS) in 1925 and Maryknoll Sisters School (MSS later known as Marymount Secondary School) in 1927. The Sisters have dedicated their whole lives to giving us a very special education and guidance at our alma mater an education that laid the foundation of who we are today. Many of these sisters who once taught and cared for us now require nursing care. It is our turn to reciprocate the care.
While the Fundraising Gala 2000 is still fresh in our mind, let us repeat history. On April 5, 2003, we will have another opportunity to renew our friendship and keep it evergreen while showing our appreciation for the people who made a difference in our lives. We will have a fun-filled evening with silent auction, table prizes, fashion show, karaoke and dancing.
The For-Ever-Green Gala Organizing Committee is now asking for your support. You can make a difference with the following:
· Attend the For-Ever-Green Gala
· Donate items for silent auction or door prizes
· Sponsor airfare and accommodation for the sisters to come to Toronto for the event
· Participate in corporate sponsorship (tell us about your business and accomplishment)
· Advertise in our program book (so your fellow classmates may know your whereabouts)
· Make a donation (Tax receipts available to U.S. residents for donations of $30 or more).
We can make this another memorable event by extending that branch of friendship and keeping it evergreen. Please give generously as your help will touch someone dear to us.
Yours truly,

The Fall picnic was held on Sunday, Sept. 22, 2002 at Milliken Park in Scarborough. Over 50 people attended with fun, food and games for young and 'old' alike. The day started bright and sunny but as the afternoon wore on, dark rain clouds were looming overhead. By the time the rain storm came, we were back in our cars, all packed ready to end the barbeque for the year. Everyone had an enjoyable afternoon and was planning the next one.
For more photos, please visit our website at www.mcsontario.org , 'recent happenings' and individual pictures can be clicked to get a better view.
The host school for the Ball is Sacred Heart Canossian College. Again, it will be at Metro Toronto Convention Centre on Saturday, February 15, 2003. As usual, there will be fine food, numerous door prizes and live music. Tickets are $80.00 per person. Please contact Ludia Fong at 416-449-0345 or Winnie Ng at 416-727-6982 to purchase tickets for a fun-filled evening with fond memories to cherish in the days to come.
A BIG WELCOME to our new members:
Joan Fan | 77 |
Wendy Man Lee | 88 |
We hope they will bring more members to join our family and contribute to the well-being of our association. We need new blood continuously and strong support from everyone who calls herself a Maryknoller.
After the 4th Worldwide reunion in Vancouver in August 2001, plans were made for the 5th one to be held in New York in 2004. A committee has already been formed and the New York committee is hosting a conference call on Dec. 2 with representatives from Vancouver and Toronto. The date of the reunion has been set for Aug. 6, 7, 8 2004. You will be kept informed of further details in our subsequent newsletters. You can be assured it would surpass the previous ones in every respect.
The present Executive Committee is due to retire in May 2003. Please be on the lookout for members who have time to serve in the new Executive Committee, 2003-2005.
It is heartening to know that members like and enjoy reading the newsletter on the internet. Our sincerest thanks to them for their co-operation in helping us to economize on postage. For those who do not have Acrobat Reader installed in their computers, they can still read the online version of the newsletter on our website, www.mcsontario.org with a slightly different layout. For questions regarding the newsletter and website, please call or e-mail Gertrude Chan at antrude@rogers.com and she will try her best to help you.
