habs.gif (3301 bytes) I may have moved to Toronto, but for more than 25 years, I was a rabid Montreal Canadiens fan. That team, besides family or conventions, was one of the few things that got me to voluntarily go to Montreal! I watched the Habs since 1971, and though I have stopped caring about the Expos, Alouettes, and other sports teams, Les Canadiens sont là! Go Habs go!!! (For more information on the Canadiens, click on the icon of the world's best hockey team, on the left, or here for their brand new site.) If you want to follow this once-great team on radio, click NHL.com here if you have Real Audio.

(The above was originally written in 1997 or so. Since then:)

Ahem.....

Considering the incredibly horrible mess they have made of their team the last couple of years, coupled with the rise of my new home team, I am now ambivalent, or divided, between the Habs and the Toronto Maple Leafs, especially since the Leafs' current roster has several former Canadiens on it! Am I being disloyal? I hope not; I still root for the Canadiens, but simply follow the Leafs more closely. Maybe it's part of adapting to Toronto. Hmmmm....(and if for some reason the Leaf logo escapes to the upper corner of this page, I have NO idea how or why. Same with the Expos logo, especially with the otherwise superior Netscape browser.)

I have no such difficulty with my baseball team, however. I have been a Toronto Blue Jays fan for many years, and have hopes for the very NEAR future, though not for 2002 since they have decided a young team is more important than a winning team. Don't rush to beat down doors for tickets. Since some of you may be Expos fans, you can check their progress by clicking on the Expos icon, or here. Not that I expect them to be around long enough for you to follow them...Viva contraction!

I USED to play Strat-O-Matic baseball (for over 20 years), both in Montreal and Ottawa, but have lost interest in it, or simply don't have the time any more. (Which, coming from someone without a current job, seems a bit odd!) But I highly recommend it for baseball fans. They also have football, hockey, and (ugh!) basketball games.

And although I have almost no interest in basketball, and ZERO interest in soccer, I must admit I do follow NFL football, though not that closely. What makes it most difficult is that Toronto fans seem to have adopted the Buffalo Bills as "their" team, whereas I cheer for their bitter rival, the Miami Dolphins. Not that either team has had that much to cheer about the last few years...

As for me personally, for the last several years, I have been getting both exercise and enjoyment playing softball in the Metro Toronto Sports League of North Toronto! If you have Internet Explorer (it does NOT work for Netscape), why not check us out?

(Although I also would like to play hockey again [preferably street hockey], as well as water-ski, snow ski, etc., I am currently not engaged in any of these pursuits. I'm not even engaged when I am NOT active either! So it is possible that this page will expand in the future---but for now, I suspect the only expansion will be confined to the NFL, NHL, Major League Baseball----and my waistline. Remember, dieters: a waist is a terrible thing to mind!)
