Guyana

1995

At the invitation of the Rt. Rev. Randolph George, Bishop of Guyana, the Anglicans in Service Team, consisting of 17 youth and 14 adults, found themselves working and worshipping with two local church congregations in Georgetown, Guyana.

The projects, which ranged over 12 days consisted of:

- painting two local churches, St. Matthews and Holy Redeemer,

- conducting workshops for the Mothers Union day care workers, and

- 2 team members unpacked and distributed the pre-sent four barrels of Books and Sunday School supplies.

On an "off" day, some of the team members ventured into the rainforest by small 9-seater planes to visit the village of Mahdia. It was here that funds were sent to build a cement block church, replacing the wooden church that had burned down. On our arrival, we found Rev. Jones Richards making the wooden molds for the cement blocks to be cast!

From Mahdia, we boarded the planes and headed for Kaieteur Falls to seek out the 825 foot waterfall in the the peace and serenity of the rainforest.
