August 25

August 25, 2004 was a very important day to me.  On this day, I gained confidence and more experience with presenting.  I felt very happy to know that the public still like to hear an ancient instrument like a Gu Zheng, so I am proud to play it.

That morning, I woke up at 9:30 and realized that I had overslept.  My mom told me to wear special Chinese clothing with a short dress.  After brushing my hair, I went to help my dad pack my Gu Zheng for a performance at 11 am.  We vacuumed the Gu Zheng and put it in a special soft case.   My parents prepared subs for our quick breakfast.  It took a bit longer than we expected.  We put everything in the car and began our journey to the Living Arts Centre.

We drove to the destination via the highway 403.  We got confused with the map my dad printed out for the family and guessed our way to the centre.   We were late when we arrived. My teacher and other students were already there.  They only needed my instrument to begin the show.  As my teacher adjusted the sounds on my Gu Zheng, the other students began to explore around the different shops.  I played first with my teacher and many people gathered around to watch.  My dad took some pictures of us.  After that, I explored around the different shops with my parents while the other students got a chance to play songs.  We got free gifts while we participated in the various activities hosted by the shops.  My dad went to a cooking presentation.  My mom and I could not stay because the teacher might call on me to play again.

After a while, my parents left to shop at the nearest mall, Square One, which was located right beside the Living Arts Centre.  I had the chance to play more songs and began to feel less nervous.  The other Gu Zheng, the one my teacher brought, was smaller and had less strings so it was harder to play.  Usually when I played with my classmates, I had to use the smaller one because I found it easy to play.  That Gu Zheng belonged to my teacher’s daughter who was only 5 years old.  When my parents came back, we purchased something to eat at one of the stores.  We used a coupon that allowed us to choose a variety of foods, which totalled to a cost of $5, for free.  My parents and I checked out the Hammerson Hall, where I would be giving my big performance at the end of August.

We left at around 5 pm.  We went to Playdium, a nearby gaming store, and played their biggest attraction, Go-Kart Racing.  We decided to head home after that, which took another 45 minutes.  We got home at around 6:45 pm and ate dinner.  I played video games after that.  Later, my mom was ironing her clothes when she suddenly realized that her friend’s birthday was tomorrow.  She immediately went to Dominion to purchase flowers.

Overall, the day was very exciting and fun.  I liked the exhibition because I got a chance to participate in it and all the stores were interesting.  I think that our “store” was the most attractive because many people stopped by to listen and asked us questions.  We played very well and my teacher played some songs that were very famous and many people stopped to listen.  Most of them took flyers which were printed from the Internet and requested that our teacher could teach in Mississauga.  I felt that this was a very good experience for me because this gave me more confidence for my next presentation.  I am looking forward to my next presentation at Hammerson Hall!

Mummy's Comment:

Need more imagination and expression. group the event and theme together so that it wouldn't appeared to be too loose ended.
