Spina Bifida

• a congenital disorder involving neural tube deficits
• failure of posterior spinous processes of vertebra to fuse
• diagnosed by amniocentesis

Possible causes are thought to be :

• genetic/environmental factors (example gestational diabetes, vitamin A or folate deficiencies)

Treatment:

• Surgery can be succesfully performed
