Lymphatic Sytem
What is lymph?
- Fluid seeps from blood plasma in capillaries and accumulates in intercellular
(between cells) spaces (interstitial fluid
- increase in interstitial fluid incrases pressure forcing the interstitial
fluid into small lymph vessels (therefore, it is now called LYMPH)
Functions:
- Reabsorb fluid from interstitial spaces
- Destruction of bacteria/foreign particles
- Absorption of lipids from intestine
- Specific immune responses (via lymphocytes)
