Lymphatic Sytem

What is lymph?

• Fluid seeps from blood plasma in capillaries and accumulates in intercellular (between cells) spaces (interstitial fluid
• increase in interstitial fluid incrases pressure forcing the interstitial fluid into small lymph vessels (therefore, it is now called LYMPH)

Functions:

1. Reabsorb fluid from interstitial spaces
2. Destruction of bacteria/foreign particles
3. Absorption of lipids from intestine
4. Specific immune responses (via lymphocytes)
