Female sex hormone with a major role in the mentrual cycle produced by the granulosa cells of the ovaries:

Menstrual cycle

1. Follicular phase
-1st day of menses to ovulation
-Endometrial proliferation
-Estrogen > Progesterone (estrogen dominated)
2. Luteal phase
-from ovulation to menses
-endometrial secretion
-Progesterone > Estrogen

Estrogen targets:

-granulosa cells
-mammary gland
-uterus
-hypothalamic - pituitary axis
