npericardial tamponade

  • accumulation of fluid in pericardium
n
  • compression of heart
n
    • inadequate ventricular filling (¯ preload) and ¯ cardiac output
npulmonary embolus
n
  • usually blood clot from lower limbs
n
  • lodges in pulmonary artery or its branches
n
  • obstructs blood flow through the lungs (right heart failure)
n
    • ¯ preload delivered to left ventricle (\ ¯ cardiac output)
