Electro-nystagmography (ENG)

• recording of electric potential accross the cornea of the eye, i.e. records eye movements
• record and analyze saccades, smooth pursuit eye movement and nystagmus
• use caloric test:
  • hot or cold water is placed into external auditory canal
    • changes in temperature of the endolymph (fluid) in the semicircular canals , creating a convection current, causing asymmetry in the vestibular system
  • measures the velocity of nystagmus as an indication of the health of the canal
