The things I make
|
I built an addition to my house which included an en-suite bath room. The
problem was that we could not find a vanity that
worked well with the new room so I built this one. It is made of cherry
and there is a matching armoire in the walk in closet. These two items
plus some matching cabinets over the washer and dryer kept me busy for most of
one winter.
|
This was my grade 7 woodwork project. Mr. Young did not know what a monster he created. Not to mention an addiction to cherry wood that resulted from his allowing me to use "hard wood" rather than pine.
|
My father had built an addition to our house which called for a spiral stair case. This required me to learn how to weld as well as how to use a vertical milling machine. This ended up being an after school grade 12 project. Not a bad deal for a guy that refused to take shop after grade 8. It was nice of the school to give my dad and me the run of the machine shop after hours.

My girlfriend (now my wife) lived in such a small place at the time that I had to make a breadbox that did double duty as a spice rack .
|
After we were married we lived in a house too big for the amount of furniture we had. My wife kept asking for me to make some living room
furniture. This is what I came up with. For over a year this was all we had in our front living room (I still think the room has never been used by guests as much as it was in those days).
|
When our first child was due to arrive I thought we could use one of these. I still remember applying the finish coats the day he was borne, right after I had come back from the hospital. The finish must have been dry for at least 4 hours by the time mother and baby arrived home.
|
This is the start of a bedroom set. I am under the gun for the dresser and armoire
now (it has only been 10 years since I finished the end tables, what's the rush).
|
This started life as a TV stand but the kids used it as a toy box, so I don't know what to call it now.

This 50" model boat has been on ongoing RC project since about 1980.
It started with a broken chain
saw that had an intact engine. It ran well enough but it
was very noisy and a bit of a pain to start. I have since got a new FM radio and
replaced the engine with a weed eater engine. At this
point I have not tested the new configuration. A paint job was added in
the summer of 2007. In water testing, some day!
