Once she found the bathroom, she pulled
out her cell phone and dialed Pauly.
"What's up?"
"Just a bad feeling. It's probably nothing, maybe even
wedding jitters, but I just can't shake it, ya know?"
"I can be there in less than two minutes."
"You're kidding? Where are you?"
"Across the street."
"Why the hell are you here?"
"For times like these." He paused long enough without
an answer. "Rave?"
"Shh . . ." she whispered quietly, looking around the
corner, "I thought I heard someone. Listen, I didn't tell
Marco I was making this call. I snuck into the bathroom
to do it."
"Understood. I'll call ya later."
She hung up and turned off her phone, staring at it. She
walked back out, sat across from Marco, and smiled.
He looked carefully into her eyes. He knew the look, and
he knew she went to call Pauly. "So, Pauly good? Is he
on his way?"
"How?" She whipped her head around, expecting to see him
in the doorway.
"Give me a break Ravin, I may not spend every waking moment
with you, but I can tell you this . . ." He paused, pulling
her chin up with his finger. "I know every emotion you
have and I can read your eyes like an open book."
"You can huh?"
"Yes, so tell me why you feel scared enough to call in
Pauly?"
"A feeling, I guess." She looked down feeling slightly
ashamed, after all this time, she should have been able
to shake the feelings of always being a target.
"Well, I'm glad to see that you've got your instincts
back in place."
"Why's that?"
"When I called, Pauly's line was busy. I guess we're on
the same page."
"You called Pauly? Do you have a feeling we're being followed
too?"
"Well, I don't know about that, but I do have a bad feeling
about something. I just don't know what exactly."
She smiled at him and took his hands. "Ya know, I think
we were meant to be together." Her smile slipped away
as she looked out the window. The blood drained from her
face as she watched in horror.
"What?" He looked around.
"Outside, someone's sitting outside." Her face continued
losing more color as she spoke.
"Do you know who it is?"
"Yes." She trembled.
"Who?"
"Get Pauly on the phone now!" She gritted her teeth, not
moving her eyes.
Marco carefully picked up his phone from the table and
quickly dialed Pauly's number.
"What do I tell him?"
"Tell him-"
"Tell him not to look behind you!" Pauly whispered, causing
Ravin to jump out of her skin. Even Marco jumped throwing
his napkin at him.
"Wow! What a great protector! Throwing a napkin, Marco!
Gee I would have never thought of that!" Pauly laughed
and slid in next to Ravin. He looked over at Ravin seeing
her utter fear and suddenly became serious.
"Ravin, what is it?"
"Outside, look outside."
Pauly looked over her shoulder trying not to be seen.
"Is that who I think it is?"
"Uh huh."
"Isn't he supposed to be in prison?"
"Maybe he got parole or something?"
"Rave, he got seven life sentences. Parole wasn't an option."
"What do we do, Pauly?"
"Well, first of all we get the hell out of here."
"Where? If he knows we're here, he'll know where we're
staying."
