The historic village of Waterloo, with a population of approximately 5000, is located in the heart of the beautiful Finger Lakes Region of Upstate New York. In 1966, Waterloo was officially recognized by President Johnson as the original Birthplace of Memorial Day. Every year, people from all around the region come to Waterloo to celebrate our freedom and honor the brave men and women who served our country.

Main Street in the tranquil village of Waterloo has --- among its stores, banks, restaurants, and colonial homes --- a Memorial Day Museum, a unique nostalgic hardware store, and several antique shops to browse through. And, it is only a 5 minute drive to the huge Premium Outlets Mall, with over 100 discount stores. Waterloo has a brand new high school, a newly renovated middle school, and 2 elementary schools. Crime in Waterloo is practically non-existent.

Also located within 45 minutes of Waterloo are Cornell University and Ithaca College, both of which are located at the southern end of Cayuga Lake in Ithaca, NY. Within approximately 1 hour are 4 State University Colleges (SUNY) and closer yet are 2 smaller colleges and 2 community colleges.

Waterloo is located in the heart of New York State's famous Wine Country, with over 80 wineries within easy driving distance. These wineries offer tours, wine tastings, fantastic views of the Finger Lakes, and many have restaurants and gift shops as well. There are 3 State Parks nearby on Cayuga and Seneca Lakes with swimming, picnicking, fishing, camping, marina, and boat launch facilities. Waterloo has 2 public 18-hole golf courses, and there is a private 18-hole country club open for membership in nearby Seneca Falls. There are also many other 9 and 18 hole courses within easy driving distance. For winter sports enthusiasts, there are several large ski areas nearby, and plenty of open space for snowmobiling, cross country skiing, and snowshoeing. There is also an enclosed ice rink for hockey and figure skating in Geneva, 8 miles west of Waterloo.
