Metric Matrix Art Gallery Exhibit 1: The Gauges of Our Lives
About the piece. This is an artistic impression of how dashboards can be used even in our private lives. The dashboards are continuously piling up as they are an indication of the increasing number of parameters we have to take note off in our life as we grow older.
The four layers represent the various stages of our life: 1st (bottom) layer: The parameters we are concerned about as a baby/child. 2nd layer: The parameters we are concerned about as a teenager/student. 3rd layer: The parameters we are concerned about as a working adult. 4th layer: The parameters we are concerned about as a retiring adult. 5th layer: The parameters we are concerned about as a retired adult.
People are being judged and measured by different sets of metrics at different points of life. In the background, you can see people ranging from children to adults. In a way, they are slowly being filled up with expectations from others as they cycle through life. It is thus not an overstatement to say that people can be seen as a dashboard, a composite of intangible metrics that determine a person's value and worth. Exhibit 2 : Imprisoned by gauges
