I would have to start with a quote from an authoritative film critic Roger Ebert, a film writer for Chicago Sun-Times, the host of the weekly television show "Ebert and Roeper at the Movies",

Perhaps in the next generation a mutant will appear named Scribbler, who can write a better screenplay for them.

This pretty much sums up the movie. I don't think anyone going into this movie and expect to see great drama. The story is very simple and the story-writers probably didn't put a lot of thoughts in it. It is a classic superheroes vs. villain battle. The villain this time is a guy named Stryker who is responsible for dealing with mutants for the government. He wanted to wipe out all the mutants.

The story is simple but with flaws. There are some plots that does not make much sense. Stryker wants to implement a Mutant Registration Act. I think the mutants are too powerful to be restricted by laws. Also, with mutants who know how to change herself to become others, I don't think registration will really work. At the ending, the crisis the mutants has to face can be solved by many of them with ease, or the combined effort of many mutants. None of them should have to sacrifice.

This brings up another issue. The story tried to carry out the mutants-humans relationship like a interracial relationship now exists in American society. The mutants think that they should not be treated like they are aliens or minority. Just like Black and Hispanic people in America fighting for their respect and rights from white people. But I don't think this analogy really works. Mutants can't possibly live with humans. They might all of a sudden burn down your house or freeze your swimming pool. I can't even imagine them having romantic relationships. Rogue can suck all the power out of her boyfriend Iceman when they kiss. I can't imagine how they can have babies.

The movie offers actions and visual effects. I think it is nowhere close to the Matrix Reloaded. The most attractive aspect of the movie is to see the different powers that each mutant possesses. They each has a unique (except the claws of Wolverine and Lady Deathstrike [Stryker's helper]) special ability. The movie provided each of them their moment to showcase their abilities. They all used their powers to overcome many tough situations.

The movie overall is not exciting, at least in my opinion. The movie did not start with a beginning, did not end quite like an ending. If you are a X-men fan, there are all the reasons to enjoy this. But for a normal person like me, the movie is ok enjoyable. The actions are ok. The visuals are ok. The movie is good, but not great.
