"Critic"-cally Incorrect
Critics. Critics of movies do things as always. But what they always do is not always understood by normal people. The great epic hit "Pearl Harbor" has been in theatres for weeks. Its box office is still strong. I have watched it last week. It is not doubt a good movie, if not a great one. I have been hearing was critics criticizing it. Of course, there are a few points worth criticized. Overall, if you refuse to be convinced that this is a good movie and refuse to go watch it because of all those critics, here is a clue.
It is a good movie. The producers invested more than 10 millions to make it. You know what, critics love to criticize movies that are expensively computerizely made. I mean "Pearl Harbor" invested a lot of money making war scenes and utilized computer graphic technologies. Usually big commercial movies with huge capital investment are targets of movie critics. Some parts that critics focus are really not enough to make a good movie bad in a moviegoer's eye. I read that the critics criticized on the script, that is, the dialogs and conversations. I agree with him. The words were not written good enough. But what difference does it make? I believe "Titanic" will still be a nice movie with mediocre dialog, though I still hold that "Titanic" will be much less sucessful without "you jump, I jump" and "I'm flying."Let's move to the love story. The love story occupied half of the movie (about 1.5 hours out of 3 hours and 8 minutes). It has been criticized as useless. Nonsense, it is important. Love story and relationships has always been an important factor of a commercial movie. The producers are not making a documentary movie to present the "real" Japanese strike in Pearl Harbor, they are making a movie. Movie is supposed for fun and entertainment. Love story thus is a great part. The love story can link the movie together. The movie focused on how several people (the main characters) reacted in the air strike. The love story can provide you with a background of them. Critics said that the love story part was too long and occupy too much time. I do not agree. This movie is a love story. The love part should occupy adequate period to tell the story. The war is only a background to it. The story of these people (Evelyn, Rafe and Danny) is the main theme. In this way, the length of love story will be just right.
Overall, this is a good movie. I can't say it's great. It is something worth seeing. The love story is not the reason I went to the movie, it is the war scenes and visual effects. I was satisfied when I walked out of the room. It is worth to see it on big screens.
