A.I.: Emotional Intelligence
I think it's more appropriate to call it Emotional Intelligence. In the near future in the eyes of Steven Speilberg and Stanley Kubrick, robots called "meca" (for mechanic, "orga", that is human, for organic) will be all around us. In the movie A.I., a group of scientists created a new generation of love robots. There have been many robots created but no one was like this one, who has emotions and the ability to love human beings. The experimental product was given to a couple whose only child was in severe illness, iced until cure is found. The couple struggled. They thought that robot cannot replace their real human child. But they overcame it and adopted the love robot David. David was like all other normal kids. The couple enjoyed having him (this is only my point of view). All these ended when a cure was found for their real child, Martin. He came back to them. David started to be jealous of Martin. He imitated Martin to eat, which he was not produced to. He ended up broken down. He cut his mother's (the human mother, Martin's real mom) hair to get his mother's love after the cunning Martin told him his mom would love him more if he could get her hair. The couple decided to dump him in a wood where old and damaged robots resided in. There he met Joe. He was a male prostitute robot. He led him around to find the Bue-Fairy he heard from the Pinochio story, where the Blue-Fairy had the ability to make Pinochio a real child. Daivd thought Blue-Fairy can also make him a real child so his mother would him (more). I'll keep the rest of the story. You should know if you go see it. (and I'm also lazy to type it) I love the fact that is brought up here: a robot can love humans, will humans love the robot back? The answer is quite found in the story, and I think it make sense. The controersy here is will a love robot get the love of human. I think any person will have a different opinion. the movie also provide a blueprint for us to imagine about the future, of achitecture and robots. Though David was not able to gain love from human, he sucessfully used his own logic to think an to find Blue-Fairy, with the help of Joe, who somehow had a little ability to think. The whole story is not perfect for me. The first part is great to bring up a controversial question yet for people in this present age to answer. The second part showed the result of over-prouction of robots and David was sucessful in thinking instead of gaining his parents' love. The ending is a little confusing and difficult to understand. But overall the movie is amazing and mind-opening. Wait and see its name announced in movie awards.
