I can honestly say I did not see the first Matrix in a movie theater. I am not sure where I saw it. It was probably from a pirated video compact disk. I regretted a lot of doing it. Some movies are really worth paying a little of my money to go into a nice place (that is a movie theater) to see it. I saw the first one more than fifteen times. HBO was showing it about once a day for a stretch of about a month. I can almost remember the entire script. I can say that I don't understand all the philosophy behind it. I don't think I can even understand 50%. But this movie offers more than just drama. The action sequences are outstanding. The moves that they created in the first matrix were classics. They were imitated so I don't know how many movies. I think they are trying to come up with the same fresh moves in this Matrix Reloaded. I am quite sure that this one has a lot more actions. Quite frankly, the movies are sort of dry. They are not as creative as those in the first one. They use a lot more visual effects to make it up. The coolest move in this one I think is Neo using a rod to spin around to kick a hundred of Agent Smiths. The best sequence is the one on the highway. (Left) This is one of the best action sequences I have ever seen. The movie spent about half of the length bringing out the story. It was a little boring. I did not research on the matrix at all. I don't fully understand it. The most expected thing I look for in this movie is actions, the drama and stories and philosophy come second. I had a hard time try to understand the story. They spent half of it carrying it. I don't blame them. I think it is necessary to fully bring the story. It is like the Lord of the Rings: Two Towers. Two Towers used 2 hours in story and one hour in war sequence. In a trilogy like this, the second one is always more drama intensive. Because it is in between the introduction and the conclusion, it's responsibility is to tell the story. The director did a superb job to dilute it. The actions and story-telling balanced out quite well. Again, I still don't get the philosophy. I had a lot of questions after the movie ends. The ending really makes me want for more. Generally this second episode out of a trilogy did not disappoint me. I went into the theater with a lot of expectation. It did not let me down a bit. The entire movie is in good control. A cliche always says "you can't catch your breath". I truly felt this way the first time in recent memory. Either you are looking for actions or brain-wrenching philosophy, this movie will not let you down. |
