Late Kidarite Bronze Hoard

(work in progress)

This complete late Kidarite hoard was discovered in an earthen pot in 2005 in the valley facing the Kashmir Smast.  It represents the first complete find which has stayed intact from Kashmir Smast, and hence provides a valuable opportunity for further study.

The hoard contains 8 basic types, and numerous subvarieties of each type.  Two of 8 types represent single specimens in poor condition, which indicate that these coins may have been earlier emissions not in broad circulation at the time this hoard was buried.  The four varieties which are heavily represented in fine – VF+ condition were likely issued during the same period (late 4th C.) and be attributable to a single Tegin.

Below are cursory photographs of the uncleaned and unsorted hoard.  These will eventually be replaced with detailed scans and commentary on each coin in the hoard.
