The Fall of Autumn

Winter did not wait for Autumn's end,
She dressed the falling leaves in brilliant ice
And clothed the choiceless trees in heavy white.
Winter dawned as Autumn entered night.

Though Autumn tried to reassert his reign,
Winter's breath made the skies only hail
Her as November's true and rightful queen,
As she browned the last of Autumn's fading green.

Winter reigned in a soft majestic white,
Until Spring arrived to hasten Winter's night
