zachary d street:

Asphyxiation

I think we are suffocating everything
we live as if smog and cigarettes
are normal
as if people smoked at the first sunrise
watching the sun emerge
from it's awkward orange shell

I wonder how big trees would be
if they could breathe
and if we didn't cut them down
in their adolescent 50's

I remember the stories and the pictures
of trees you could drive through
but black and white doesn't seem real
anymore
It seems like a dream my parents once had
a dream about big trees

I think we are suffocating everything
mostly ourselves
