I bought the tickit on a whim. I was at the corner store on a random friday night, buying all kinds of junk food for the "girls' night" that my best friend Ashleigh and I had every weekend, and I saw the Scratch & Win lottery tickits.
"I'll have one of those, too." I said, pointing to the tickit I wanted.
The cashier pulled the tickit out, rang everything in, and I headed home.
That's the day my entire life changed. I had no idea that the two dollar lotto tickit I bought randomly would ultimatly be worth several million dollars. Suddenly I was thrown into a wirlwind of popularity, press, and way more money than I knew what to do with. Suddenly, people who had never given me the time of day wanted to be my best friend. I was getting all kinds of letters, phone calls and emails from people who wanted to borrow money. Random people would always be outside of my house just...standing there. After a few weeks of being recognized and hassled everywhere I went, I decided that I couldn't take it anymore. I had to go somewhere where nobody knew who I was, where I couldn't stand out. There were not a whole lot of millionairs in Maine, so it only made since that I moved away to a place that had tons of millionairs. Somewhere I always wanted to go. California.
Within two weeks, Ashleigh and I were moving in to our beautiful new home. I didn't have much family. Ash was all I had, so of course I took her with me. She would murder me if I moved away to sunny California without her anyway. We had both always wanted to go there to visit, but never in a million years did we think we would live there in our very own house. It was the kind of house I always wanted. An old Victorian with a beautiful wrap around deck. It was huge, and I definitly could have afforded something way bigger, but it was all I needed. Way more than I could have ever dreamed of. Growing up in an apartment my entire life, I didn't need a huge mansion. It felt like I had all the space in the world with my new house.
"So, now that we are all unpacked, we should do something today." Ashleigh said, flopping down on the couch. We had been there for two days, and had barely left the house because we wanted to get everything organized.
"Yeah, I am dying to get out and see the town. But where should we go?" I asked, fanning myself off. I was definitly going to have to get used to this hot weather. I loved it, but it was a huge change from the east coast.
"Chloe, we are in California! Where do you think we should go?"
"The beach!" We both shouted at the same time.
Normally I was not the "beach bum" type of person. The thought of laying out in the sun and purposly giving yourself skin cancer was just kind of weird. Plus, my skin was a pretty light ivory color, and I thought I would look funny with a tan. I did love to swim however, but normally chose to do it inside, in a pool. Ashleigh was right though, we were in California, and that's what people do. I could definitly use a little cooling off anyway.
We both ran to our bedrooms to get dressed. I dug through my dresser and pulled out my black two piece bathing suite. I slipped it on, then threw a pair of fitted jeans that were ripped in the knees, a yellow spaghetti strapped tank top, and black Converse sneakers. I pulled long dark brown (almost black) hair into a messy ponytail, and ran back downstairs, where I met Ashleigh in the hallway.
"You look cute." She said.
"Thanks, so do you." I replied, eyeing her blue halter top and jean skirt. She had her light brown, shoulder length hair tied back in a fancy looking ponytail.
We arrived at the beach within fifteen minutes. It was only a three minute drive, but we decided to walk to take in the sights. Like I said, we had barely left the house since we had moved there, and we were dying to get out. I slipped off my sneakers and set off across the hot sand to find a place to lay our towels down, while Ash headed to the canteen to get us some ice cream. I had been baking in the sun for about five minutes, and actually enjoying it. I don't think I had ever felt this warm back home. I was so relaxed, so happy. I thought about how I would never have to worry about money again. I had the world at my fingertips, and anything I had ever wanted, I could have. Suddenly, my thoughts were interruped to Ashleigh's voice.
"Hey Chlo!"
"Oh Hey." I replied, opening my eyes. She was standing over me, holding two melting banana ice creams, and with her was the most good looking guy I had ever seen in my entire life. His skin was tanned, his hair was shaggy and brown. He was several inches taller than me (which really was't hard, since I was only about five foot one anyway) and his stomach and chest were very much in shape.
"Hi, I'm Zac." He said, flashing me a very impressive smile.
