Lighting and doorbell
Met lighting person at
the Brimfield model home. She had a computer program that
displayed all the available lighting choices. We pretty
much stayed with the standard lighting fixtures.

Flooring and countertops.
We visited WCCV in
Uniontown. Picked out wood flooring for the foyer, dinette,
and kitchen and vinyl for the bathrooms and laundry room.
The rest of the house will be carpeted (teal in master
bedroom, burgundy in living room, “pebble creek” [aka “tan”]
everywhere else. Picked out the kitchen and bathroom
countertops as well. That was the hard part. The vinyl
flooring samples are big—probably 2 foot square—and the
countertop samples are tiny—probably 1 inch by 2 inches.

Preconstruction.
Julie introduced us to
the Foundation Supervisor and the Project Manager. We made
a couple of changes to the plans and turned in our color
selections.

Closing!
Signing all the papers
was uneventful and took about an hour. The stressful part
was yesterday when the title company contacted us to tell us
what our closing costs would be. The company did not
initially credit us for the entire amount of our earnest
deposit. After that was corrected, everything was smooth
sailing. We drove out to our home site and found that the
Foundation Supervisor was already staking out the lot. That
was pretty neat to see. He also posted the building permit.

Concrete Block, Part 3
The basement and garage block work is pretty much finished.
There are only 1 or 2 rows left to finish in the garage.
The stoop is mostly finished as well. Before the block was
in, the hole didn't seem as if it was deep enough for the
basement. But now that the block is in, it definitely
looks deeper.

Concrete Block, Part 4
The basement and garage block are finished, as well as the
stoop. The brick band was put around the front of the
foundation. A nice touch that we didn't know they were
going to do was they put a smooth coat of cement over the top
few rows of block to create a more finished look. We were
surprised and happy about that.

Back Fill 2
Completed the back fill of the basement and the garage.
Grade was smoothed for majority of yard and steel beam and
support poles for the basement were delivered. Basement
has about 4" or 5" of water in it. Either that means the
basement is so waterproof on the outside that the water has no
place to go or we will have an indoor swimming pool for free.

The lumber was delivered today. Pam, Rena, and Kari went
to visit the site with us. When we got there we saw the

while and by the time we returned, the decking had been
installed.

Framing 4, Windows & Doors
The windows, sidelights, and doors were
installed today. The cornices above the front windows were
also installed. We were happy to see that the workers
picked up all of the scrap in the yard and threw it in the giant
Dumpster that is in the driveway. That left the yard
fairly tidy. We ate our first meal at the house too.
Our food of choice? Pizza!

Electrical 2
The electricians have spent another day installing the wiring.
It appeared that most of the wire has been run, it needs to be
hooked up to the electrical box. The plumbers were in
sometime today and charged all of the waste water lines and
copper pipe to check for leaks. The fireplace was also
installed today. The shingles are on now. They had
the main part of the house done by noon.

Concrete
We went out to the house today expecting to find at least a
start on the siding. Much to our surprise we found the
concrete had been poured for the front stoop, garage, and
basement. That was okay with us as we are putting up
insulation in the garage this weekend and it would have been a
challenge with the ladders with the very uneven dirt that was in
the garage.

Garage Door
We arrived at the house today to clean up some of the brush in
the back yard. After about 15 minutes of looking around we
noticed a lot of nails on the garage floor. Finally we
looked up and found we had a garage door.

Insulation, Siding
Today was an extremely long, but rewarding day. The day
started with us going to Scott's former boss to borrow his truck
to pick up the insulation for the garage. When we arrive
at the house at about 9:45 the workers had a major part of the
siding started. We let them work and came to the house
around 2:30 and found the house completely sided and everyone
gone. We were very pleased with the outcome! From
then we began insulating. Around 3:30 Mark Stauffer, one
of Scott's friends from the airport and one of our neighbors
arrived to help with the insulation. By 5:30 we had the
entire garage walls and ceiling insulated. It was a lot of
work but we are glad it's done.
