He enters the throne at an aproximate age of seven-teen. Ramesses had six principal wives being his most beloved, queen Nefertary which he lost in his 24th year of reign. His harem had about two hundred women. During his sixty seven reign he celebrated 14 Sed Festivals and had over 150 children. His first son Amonerkepeshef died while in his childhood and he is asummed to be the character in Moses's story. Ramesses The Great also called by his heritage Ramesses II survived to twelve of his children leaving the throne to his 13th, Merenptah. Ramesses reached a lenght of almost six feet which was unusual for the egyptian race but arthritis during his late life made him somewhat shorter. He had prominent cheek bones, big ears, well formed muscle build-up and redish hair. He went to his first war during his 5th year of reign and is reputed as being a great warrior which is thought in the present to be exagerated. Three years before he was crowned pharaoh he was already helping his father to rule Seti I as co-regent. Ramesses died at the aproximate age of 85 caused by smallpox which is now a virus that scientists have under protection and are debating whether to destroy or not. His mouth was full of worn teeth and cavities which must have caused him great pain during his oldness. Ramesses The Great comissioned more monuments and constructions than any other ruler in Egypt and made a canal in Suez so trading would be much easier.
