It was preferable Egypt's Pharaoh married a sister or step-sister, these marriages are seen since the first dynasties of egyptian history. The pharaoh had what we call a harem, it consisted of his main and secondary wives, concubines or cortesans and his young children. Usually the throne was left to the pharaoh's main wife's oldest son. The ruler was worshiped in life and death as the Living God Horus and participated as high priest in all the religious ceremonies. Meals for the rich specially the pharaoh included hyena, antelope, buffalo, geese, duck, sheep and cattle. The King had a specialized servant who washed and cleaned his hands every time he ate. |
