Discovered by explorer Howard Carter, born in 1874 in Great Britain. Container pieces with the name Tut-ankh-amen had been found in The King Valley and around 1916 excavations were started with the purpose of finding this person's tomb. On November the 4th, 1922 stair steps going down into the sand were discovered. Rubbish was cleared out and excavators found out that the stairway concluded with a limestone door. By November the 24th, 1922 the door had been opened and the workers together with Carter were amazed and dazzled at the first glimpse of what the tomb promised. The funerary chamber's location was known the next day and they entered it on the 29th of the same month. The tomb was small compared to others belonging to pharaohs, it only had four rooms and had an area of 930 square feet. Egyptologist are certain that it was meant for someone else, maybe an official of some sort but it had to be used because young pharaoh's death. A glove was found in the tomb, Tutankhamen's age was estimated having in mind the glove's size. It's thought the Pharaoh died when only having from 16 to 20. This pharaoh restored the multi-god religion in Egypt after Akhenaten, the monotheist altered it. Completely emptying out Tutankhamen's tomb took approximately ten years. Young pharaoh Tutankhamen was no warrior nor he erected innumerable constructions but his fame has come to him thanks to all the preserved treasures found in his tomb. It is estimated that when Howard Carter entered his tomb it only had a 60% of originality. The entrance had been forced in thr past but it was very well hidden and this kept the tomb raiders out. No one thought that anything else could be found in The King Valley, it had been excavated all around but explorers were sure that every tomb had been discovered. But to everyone's surprise one of Ancient Egypt's best preserved treasures was found thanks to an arqueologist who never gave up his dreams. |
