They sure did it again! The next month, pretty much everyone at the first reunnion (and many others) showed up again for the second Hill School reunion in Chicago. There were festivities and the Liggins wedding was a good backdrop for this sunny Summer Reunion where practically every Kenyan in Chicago was present. The usual suspects - Patch (Nairobi School), KP2 (Kaptagat Preparatory) and Changes (Lenana) were there to represent- although there seemed a larger Patch presence, given the now-public school rivalry. This time it was done with planning and well-organized precision thanks to Olive Liggins.
All in all, I think this was THE best weekend Hillo Reunion I've been to so far. Special thanks to Ron, Olive and to everyone who showed up and made this a day to remember. See you in 2003!

We first attended the formal black-tie Liggins union and enjoyed a great Friday evening of entertainment at the Paytons Roundhouse Party Center in Aurora. This was the event that ushered the traditional "Wana wa Imberi" dancing.
On Saturday a large party was organized at Romeoville. From noon, it was barbecue at 90 degrees and memory stories. It was during this that we discovered just how sophisticated these Chicagoans were in re-living Kenyan life when introduced to "Sambuka" liquor! The name itself is a giveaway but if you still don't get it, lets just say this is the equivalent to the potent Kumi-kumi aka Cham or as they called it Changaa back in Kenya. Dont ask how they manage to brew and distill this as they aren't exactly Chemistry majors, but Daudi had a bottle and insisted it didn't have any methane, which is responsible for the blinding effects. I'll attest that the vapors alone were enough to make one high. The phrase "Sambuka- anguka" quickly caught on then. I suspect this stuff was responsible for events after that.
Soon after, the Patch and Changes alumni were at it in a heated debate over some old rivalry. Someone then later coined the phrase "Prince-ss of Wales", and things went downhill between the two after that. Just know that this was the place where it began. Later that night, it was off to downtown Chicago where Kenya's Top Donn DJ had a Club Party arranged. The next day most people struggled to get up and head back after resolving to do it again next year. This time we did manage to get Hillo group pictures. A similar effort by Patcherians had quickly ended as old vendettas resurfaced, so it was good to see the Hillo alumni reunite
