Chicago in June 2003 was a much cooler summer, but the action was just as hot as ever. This year there was an interesting twist of events that marked the general alumni gathering. A few weeks earlier, Lawrence Njoroge had suggested including the Hillo crew around in the Golf tournament. This was part of the nationwide Uhuru Golf league now gaining much acclaim for its greens and reknowned play level. The date was therefore set and the venue of Schaumburg Country Golf Club chosen for the action. Given the private secluded area and advanced reservations,it would have been quite a competition. However as expected in a city the size of Chicago, where competing events are the norm on summer,there turned out to be an equally entertaining alternative. Months before famed Orchestral African Artist Koffi Olomide had postponed his USA concert tour and Chicagoans were eagerly awaiting his debut there. So it turned out that promoters pressed for open days, set it for that timeframe. Well, the rest needs little explanation. Basically, the concert diverted many players the prior evening and the next morning, sports just wasn't as desirable. There were a number of hillo faces among the audience at this live performance and in a rare break from the norm, Hillo's Multimedia professional Ron Lubia ('88) was given permission to shoot some rehearsal and show footage. Many present said that this was a great show and the nostalgia of There also was a state convocation that had a Kenyan fellow. It is becoming a popular tradition to host those in academic excellence. In this case, there was a candidate for Masters level graduation. In short, well-wishers represent their candidate by a loud toast right after the title is conferred, and that Saturday there was plenty of heckling thanks to the two-dozen or so of us.
