Summary | The planet of Terra II is inhabited by only males, with females called Marionettes to serve them. (Not in that way, perverts. In fact, it's considered wrong to be attracted to a marionette.) Otaru is a loser on this planet until he uncovers a marionette- but not just any marionette. She has a maiden circuit that gives her emotions that other marionettes do not have. Eventually, Otaru uncovers three of these marionettes- and all for a reason (which is a spoiler). And... the real plot is a spoiler too. Genre: shounen/comedy. |
Plot | It's so perfect! I don't know how they could make it better... If you want it spoiled for you, just email or IM me and I can go on and on and on about why I love it so much. |
Characters | If I were to fall in love with an anime character (I'm not THAT much of a loser!) it would be Otaru. He's so perfect, doing anything for his marionettes, yet so flawed, ditching his marionettes for fame. His character is so human and real while being perfect at the same time. Not to mention, Lime develops so perfectly that you can't believe that the people of Terra II would want to -ommited b/c it's a spoiler-. My only complaints are that Bloodberry is nowhere near as human-like as Lime but is still considered grown up and that the Saber Dolls are all wearing the same clothes... But their personalities are perfectly underdeveloped. (And yes, they should be underdeveloped. Can't explain or it's a spoiler.) Oh, and I think Lorelai is a *****... The reason is... That's right, a spoiler! |
Humor | There's never a dull moment when you're watching Saber Marionette J! Just when you'd expect the plot to get serious, there's more humor BUT the plot still continues on! |
Animation | The characters are kinda lopsided. Even the best anime have flaws. |
Music | If you haven't heard Hayashibara Megumi sing, you'll hear it when you watch this series and absolutely love it! |
Japanese voices and subtitles | First off, Lime is played by the great seiyuu Hayashibara Megumi, who not only has a great voice to begin with but plays Lime's character incredibly well. Second, Otaru already had a notably good voice, when what happens? That's right, I look up his seiyuu and she's a woman! I couldn't tell that Otaru was done by a woman when watching the series, and a feminine voice doesn't fit him either... But his voice does not sound feminine! On to subtitles... They're yellow. And I love SMJ SO much that the yellowness of the subtitles is my least favorite part of it. |
Dubbed voices | I only watched the dub for about five seconds, in which I found the voices bearable but not good. There's also a Spanish dub, but I didn't listen to it. |
Bishounen factor | Otaru is definitely my favorite. But I don't think he really belongs in this category since I like him for his personality... |
Cutesy factor | The story is so cute, and having an innocent little Lime just adds to it. |
Notes | This is my favorite anime of all time. Yes, it's even better than Slayers and Rurouni Kenshin! *everybody falls out of their chairs* Some people might think it's too silly, but they can just go watch Ghost in the Shell instead. Some people may find this anime offensive and sexist, but I really don't find it that bad. After all, they're saying objects are women, not women are objects. I still wouldn't reccomend it for very young boys because of this (also, they wouldn't be understand some of the more serious and emotional elements that make the series even better, shouldn't be seeing women in Bloodberry's or the Saber Dolls' outfits, and probably can't read the subtitles anyway.) Manga writer: Akahori Satoru. Lime's voice and theme song singer: Hayashibara Megumi. Otaru's voice: Yoko Imae. Company: Kadokawa Shoten (Japan) Bandai (US) |
