First, know that I am a fighter, not a teacher, & still learning. These are all simplifications that we can expand on if you want to. I am giving you things from my experiences, training, & reading. NHB means "No Holds Barred".  It means that we will and can use any non-lethal technique to win in the ring.  We allow anyone to fight in the events no matter what system of combat you train in.  Many people will gravitate towards either the Pugilism or Grappling end of the spectrum but we all must have at least functional knowledge of both to compete.

Fighting is loosely divided into 2 categories:

1) Brazilian Jiu Jitsu or "BJJ", it's what I learn. It consists of grappling in very close quarters with an opponent and moving the fight to the ground by "Taking Down" an opponent.  Usually with a grab or throw. Then attempting to use blood chokes, air chokes, & large joint manipulation. Grapplers most often win by an opponent conceding the match to you by indicating this to the referee with a specific word or gesture, usually tapping the mat. Giving birth the term "Tap-Out".

Antonio Rodrigo "Minotauro"  Nogueira is a world class Brazilian Jiu Jitsu fighter  in rank as well as accomplishment.  Minotauro is the most technical heavyweight Jiu Jitsu fighter to date and is also a PRIDE F/C champion.

Another of the BJJ community ELITE is Royce Gracie. He is a surgeon in the ring and tactical expert who is respected internationally for his wins over much larger, stronger opponents.

2) Pugilism consists of striking with knees, elbows, fists, feet, head, etc. A pugilist wants to keep distance between the opponnent & himself so he can strike with the full range of motion, most often winning by striking a blow that leaves the opponent unconscious.

Someone who puts it all together and is a man with an undefeated winning streak that extended more than 5 years, Wanderlei Silva. Click here to see his Highlights.
