Tips on catching & breeding Chocobos
- You can rotate a chocobo you're viewing by holding the R1 or L1 buttons
- Chocobos you keep won't run away when you dismount them
- You can enter the Highwind riding a chocobo & when you land you will automatically be riding it
- You must buy & equip the "Chocobo Lure" from the man at the ranch
- If you dont buy any stalls, a chocobo will run away once you dismount it
- You can only start keeping & breeding chocobos once you get the Highwind
- You must buy greens to capture and feed you chocobos
- Different kinds of greens & nuts have different effects on chocobos
- When trying to catch a chocobo, put the greens at the top of your items list (so you can quickly get a green without searching for one)
- You must buy 4-6 stalls (you can only do this once you receive the Highwind) to start breeding
- Take note on what sex your chocobo is (you must have a male & female chocobo to breed)
- You must have alot of money & time to start breeding (you have to pay for greens & nuts and you must race your chocobos to a high class at the Gold Saucer)
A chocobo will run away in battle if:
- You take too long to feed a chocobo
- You attack a chocobo
- You attack a monster before you give a chocobo a green
- You don't immediately give a green to a chocobo once it stops eating

How to catch a Yellow Chocobo
Equip the Chocobo Lure materia to one of your characters. Go to a place where there are chocobo tracks. Run around on the tracks and you will soon go into battle. In the battle screen there will be a chocobo and some monsters. Give the chocobo a green. While the chocobo is eating have one character attack a monster. Then have the next character give the chocobo a green. Continue this sequence until all of the monsters have died. You will be then rewarded the yellow chocobo!

How to get a Blue & Green Chocobo
To get a blue or green chocobo you need to win or steal three Carob Nuts from Vlakorados (the area near bone village) & win or steal one Zeio Nut from a Goblin (on the goblin islands). Then go visit the Chocobo Sage & buy 40 Sylkis greens from him. Capture good male chocobos southeast of the Gold Saucer & great female chocobos west of Mideel. Mate the good male chocobo with the great female chocobo using a Carob Nut. With a little luck, this will produce a new Green or Blue chocobo (if it doesn’t work, try again).

How to get a Black Chocobo
Once you have one blue chocobo & one green chocobo of the opposite sex, give each chocobo 10 Sylkis Greens. Go to the Gold Saucer & talk to Ester at the Chocobo Square. Enter one of your chocobos into the chocobo races. Win 6 consecutive races so your chocobo reaches Class A. After your chocobo reaches Class A, enter your other chocobo in the races. Once both chocobos are Class A go back to the Chocobo Ranch and mate the two chocobos using a Carob Nut. You now should have a Black Chocobo!

How to get a Gold Chocobo
Once you have a black chocobo, go to the chocobo tracks near the Icicle Inn & capture a wonderful chocobo of the opposite sex. Feed both the Black & Yellow chocobos 10 Sylkis Greens. Go to the Gold Saucer and race the Black & Yellow chocobos until they are Class A. Once both chocobos are Class A, take them back to the ranch and mate the two using a Zeio Nut. You now should have a Gold Chocobo!
