Ah. . . nothing could be more exciting than watching an octopus trying to capture crabs for dinner at the Discovery Channel. The suspense is keeping me at the edge of my seat and I can't help but cheer for the eight-armed guy with copper-based blood. "Octopus! Octopus! He's our man! If he can't do it, no one can!"
Seriously though, today's the last day of the year and just like everyone else is doing, from MTV to CNN, it's time to reminisce on the year that was. I'd say 2002 has been a good year for me. A really good year. I've had more smiles than there were frowns, more successes than there were failures.
I wonder what 2003 would be like. Who knows what awaits us in the coming year. For sure, it's not up to astrologers to decide. In the end, what 2003 would be like would depend on the choices we make although there are some factors that may be beyond our control such as climatic conditions, the stock exchange, crappy political situations and the like. Okay, well, maybe a little on planetary alignments. =)
Well then, akemashite omedetou!!!
I had just woken up from my afternoon nap (or siesta as the Spanish might call it) and I'd say things were fun till I woke up. Sleep is a nice way to pass time and it's a mighty good medicine against boredom. However, you can't just sleep all the time or you'll only feel sluggish, lethargic.
I've had a Lord of the Rings marathon recently. Yesterday, I watched The Fellowship of the Ring (for the first time!) and just this morning, I watched The Two Towers. The movies are cool and I can't wait to watch The Return of the King.
I wonder if it was Tolkien who spawned the popularity of the fantasy genre. Some movies, books, video games, anime (think Record of Lodoss War) may have been influenced by Tolkien's works. Tolkien looks ancient too, like a wizard or something.
Oh well, enough of Middle Earth. I still have to figure out how to occupy myself in this Boring Earth.
Tomorrow's Christmas already and for some reasons, Christmas just doesn't feel like it this year. I guess it's because times have gone tough. The real meaning of Christmas is lost amidst economic problems and various political turmoil. Years ago, you can feel the spirit of Christmas as early as September but what happened now? Maybe it's just me. I don't know. . .
I've heard that scientists are trying to revive the Tasmanian tiger from extinction. I guess that's good but then again, wouldn't bringing back something that has long been gone disrupt the balance of Nature? For one, the niche that that extinct creature used to occupy may have been "overwritten" already. Nature has adjusted itself from that creature's loss and if that creature is to be re-introduced, Nature will have to adjust itself again.
However, the thought of bringing an extinct creature back to life is cool. Should they be successful in reviving the thylacine, it would be a major breakthrough. A few years ago, scientists were trying to revive the mammoth but to no success (I think it was because no mammoth DNA was found). Still, science and technology is progressing at a highly rapid pace. For all we know, Jurassic Park might just become a reality.
Anyway, a merry Christmas to all!!!
My voice is still hoarse but it isn't as hoarse as yesterday. You know what, one bad thing about having a hoarse throat is that you can't sing when you feel like singing. Well, you can, actually, but you'd sound funny. Better not force it, else you'll only sound worse. =)
"Future" is nice. It's got a Western feel to it. It's nice to listen to when your inside a car on a lazy Sunday afternoon. Today's a lazy Sunday afternoon but I'm not in a car. I'm inside my room and it's kinda hot. Man, someone ought to tell the weatherman to make up his mind. Still, "Future" is a really nice song.
Oh yeah, I watched The Ring last Thursday and one word says it all: cool! All hail to its Japanese creators. In case you don't know, The Ring is originally a Japanese film. I've heard about it last October (during Halloween) when some TV shows featured must-watch horror movies and The Ring was always on their list. I got interested but I didn't know back then that there was an American remake.
The Ring does not rely on blood and gore for horror but rather on its hautinngly unique plot. Just imagine, you watch a video and you get a call saying you're gonna die in seven days. Now isn't that scary? The thought that you'll only have a week more to live sure is scary and scarier is the fact that you don't even have the slightest idea of how you're going to die.
Now what. . . I got a phonecall. . .
Date: Saturday, 21 December 2002; 1:17 pmI caught acute nasopharyngitis, otherwise known as the common cold, two days ago. It has evolved into a cough and my voice has gotten hoarse as well. I think I'm beginning to sound like a more nasal version of Boys Be's Kyoichi Kanzaki. I guess Christmas isn't only a cold season but a COLDS season as well (pardon the pun).
There won't be any classes till the 6th of January next year. People will be going home to celebrate the holiday with their families. Kinda like Hogwarts, isn't it? I do hope my friends send me an owl.
Great, my PC caught a macro virus called vbs/redlof.2. Just imagine, out of the 18062 files in my PC, 5232 of them were diagnosed to have caught the bug (that's around 29% already!) and all of them are either htt's, htm's or html files. However, the worst has passed and no damage was done (thank goodness). I've practically spent the whole weekend "healing" my PC and it wasn't until this noon that I've declared my PC completely cured.
Anyway, I've finally finished playing Blade of Darkness a few days ago (hmm... I wasn't able to mention here in my blog that I've been playing the game, have I?). The gameplay was great but the ending was *drumroll* really really lousy. The game creators should have thought of a better ending.
I got a little bored just a while ago and decided to try playing the game using a different character. I used Sargon, the knight, in my first play and now I'm using Zoe, the amazon. I guess she's okay but I think she's a little too noisy when she attacks. ^_^x
I wonder what it'd be like to fall. . . I wonder what it'd be like to fall without hitting the ground.
I guess as far as physics is concerned, there isn't such a thing as falling without hitting a ground because without anything to fall into, an attraction wouldn't occur. Nothing would pull you down so perhaps, you'd just float in space. But provided gravity occurs despite the absence of a ground to fall into, you'd be accelerating at a rate of 9.8 m/s² forever! Soon enough, maybe you'd ignite into flames (just like a meteorite).
But if the laws of physics are to be repealed, maybe it would feel nice to fall. You can just close your eyes and let go. You're not going to die anyway because there wouldn't be anything to hit upon. You just fall and fall and fall. . .
