Joan Jett & the Blackhearts
Kaneohe Marine Base - July 18, 1998

This was the first of two shows the Blackhearts were playing that weekend for an event called Ocean Concepts Bayfest '98, which was some sort of benefit with carnival rides and other local entertainers. The show started promptly at 8:00, and the band opened with the Runaways classic CHERRY BOMB as I rushed up to the stage through the people sitting in lounge chairs in the back, and eventually through to the semi-large crowd gathered in the front. Although I was a little late in staking out a good spot, I managed to get a pretty good view from the right side of the stage where I stood. I managed to take some so-so pictures..there was a post in the way, but it didn't obstruct my viewing much. It actually helped to block out some bright lights :)
Anyways, she played an incredible set that included all her hits and more: BAD REPUTATION, DO YOU WANNA TOUCH ME?, CRIMSON & CLOVER, I LOVE ROCK 'N ROLL, I WANNA BE YOUR DOG, EVERYDAY PEOPLE, I HATE MYSELF FOR LOVING YOU, ROADRUNNER, FAKE FRIENDS, and even the Mary Tyler Moore theme, LOVE IS ALL AROUND. She played some new tunes as well, including FETISH and ANDROGYNOUS. After the show, she and the band kind of disappeared, so I had no chance to get autographs or meet them. But I did get to buy an autographed single of "Everyday People" at the souvenier table for only $10. Even though I didn't get her to sign it myself, it was still really cool. She put on one of the best live shows I've ever seen, and seeing her in person made me love her even more.
