Chronic town

R.E.M. was all set to go now. What they had produced was a 12" EP with 5 songs on it, Chronic town. Recordings lasted three days in October '81 in North Carolina. One song, Ages of you was finally replaced by Wolves, Lower right before the release, the 24th of August, '82. Mitch Easter, commenting on the album: "I remember 'Chronic town' completely fondly because it was so relaxed, and so open to cutting the tape up and putting pieces in backwards and stuff. There were some fireworks one night, so we went and sat on the roof for hours and watched the fireworks instead of working on the record, because we could you know?" Bill: "A chronic town is a city in the state of mind." Critics liked chronic town, and it sold over 20,000 copies in its first year.
