It's been 1 week. Robin has gone back to Paris. The divorce papers have
been filed, but the divorce won't be final until October. Every three weeks
the kids will spend the weeekend with Jason while they live with Caroline in
New Jersey. Jason has tried to get in touch with Caroline, but to no avail.

Today is the day they are moving to New Jersey. Jason has bought a house
for them near Carolines friend. Before they leave they are going to the
Penthouse to pack. Jason is suppose to wait in Justus's apt. untill Caroline
leaves to say good-bye to the children, but he has other plans.
 

Penthouse:

It is late, and it's dark and pouring outside. Caroline is upstairs packing. The
children are done and waiting in the livingrom for their mom. Suddenly Jason
peeks his head in and when he sees that Caroline isn't there he comes in.
Lilly and Michael run to him and yell "Daddy!"

Jason knelt down and hugged them "Oh, I've missed you two so much.
Where's your mother?"

"Upstairs packing." Michael said

"K., guys I need you to go next door to Justus apartment. Ok? I'll be there
to get you soon." The kids nodded and left.

Jason took a deep breath and walked into the bedroom. Caroline looked up
and he saw the tear stains on her face. "You shouldn't be here." she said
weakly.

"Why not?" Jason asked. "It's our home."

"No." Caroline said shaking her head "It's your home."

"OUR home."

"NO!" Caroline yelled. "It WAS our home. Just like it was OUR family, but
you threw all that away." She zipped up the suitcase "Now I'm done
packing. I'm going to the limo and I'll wait for the kids, say your good-byes
to them." She tried to leave but Jason blocked her path. "I'm not letting you
go Caroline." He said quietly "Not untill we talk."

"Talk? Talk about WHAT Jason? How you CHEATED on me? How you
broke my heart? What?"

"How about how much I love you."

"You've already proven how much you love me. That's why I'm leaving."

"No, I made a mistake. You've made them too. Why can't you forgive me?"

"Because I NEVER hurt you Jason!!! I never broke your heart. I NEVER
EVER made you feel worthless!! I NEVER CHEATED on you!!!." Caroline
yelled "And you know why? Because you're the LOVE of MY life!"

"And YOU are the love of MY life!"

"No, Jason." Caroline said quietly. "I'm not. You've convinced me that I'm
not. I'm not Robin, Jason. And I never will be"

"I don't want ROBIN!! I want you!!!" Jasn said as he stepped toward
Caroline. They were standing so close that they felt each others breath on
their faces. He reached out and touched her face slowly he leaned down and
passionatly kissed her. She was stiff and put her ands on his chest and tried
to push away but he grabbed her and held her close. He had one arm around
her wait, his hand pressed on the bottom of her spine, pushing her close. His
other hand was on the back of her head. Pressing her face to his. She
struggled at first but eventually gave in to it. Still kissing he lifted her and
layed her on the bed and layed on top of her.

His hands traveled up her shirt and he began to nuzzle her neck neck.
Suddenly she pushed him away and rolled off the bed. She slumped down
next to the bed, pulled her knees to her chest, put her head down and began
to sob.

Jason jumped oof the bed and ran to her side and said "Caroline?"

He reached out to smoothe her hair but she pushed his hand away and
looked up and said. "I can't Jason. I can't. I can't forget what you did, I can't
FORGIVE what you did." Caroline looked up, into his eyes and said "When
I see you, I see you and her on the couch. When you touch me, I can't help
thinking of you touching her, and wondering if YOU'RE thinking of touching
her, pretending, WISHING that I'm her. I just can't."

Jason cupped her face in his hands and put their foreheads together and
whispered. "When I touched HER I thought of YOU. I love Caroline. I need
YOU. You, Lilly, Michel are my life. I just want to move on. Forget about
this mess. You're the only thing that counts Caroline. What do you want me
to do? Name it, I'll do it."

Caroline lifted her eyes to his and said so quietly that he could barley hear
her. "You can let go." Thunder sounded as the rain poured outside and
Caroline continued as tears fell down her face. "You can let go of my face,
let go of me. Just let go."

"NO!" Jason tightened his grip on her face as tears fell from his face as well.
"No baby. It's impossible. When you get TRUE, PURE love like we've got,
it's impossible to let go."

"That's just it Jase." Caroline replied tearfully. "You did let go. Wether it was
just that once or multiple times..."

"I only did it that once, Caroline, I swear, I ..." Jason interrupted her but
Caroline put her fingers to his mouth to silence him and said "It doesn't
matter. The point is, you did it, and I CAN'T let go of it. I love you Jase,
always and forever but I have to go."

With that she stood up , picked up her suitcase and walked down the stairs
and set the suitcase down with all the other bags and kept her back to the
staircase as she walked to the door, tears streaming down her face. Just as
her hand touched the door knob she felt two strong arms wrap around her.
"Don't go." he whispered hoarsley he buried his head into her neck and the
tears rolled down his cheeks and onto his neck, as he sobbed into her neck.
Caroline put her head down and sobbed into his hair. They stood like that
for a minute untill she pulled away and turned to face him. She picked up his
hand and held it in both of hers, while she looked into his eyes. Slowly her
eyes drifted downward and looked at their hands. slowly she pulled her left
hand away, still holding his hand with her right hand, and pulled off her
engagement ring. She opened his hands and put the ring in his hand. She
closed his hand over the ring, and her hands over his. She drifted her eyes
back up to his and said quietly. "Despite everything, I still love you. With all
my heart. I just hate you too much." she took a deep breath and said "I'll
wait in the lobby for the kids."

With that she walked out the door and asked Renaldo to bring the bags
downstairs.

She stepped into the elevator and Jason watched as the doors closed and
she was gone.

After a few seconds he went to say goodbye to his kids.
 

Jason watched fro the window as Caroline held an umbrella over the kids
head as they rushed to the cab. She closed the umbrella and as she was
getting into the cab, she looked up. Their eyes locked and they just stood
there, with rain pouring down her.

Suddenly she turned away and got into the cab. Once inside she let Lilly lay
her head on her lap. She reached over and rufled Michaels hair. She turned
to look out the window as she reached for her silver locket. It was heart
shaped and inside was a picture of her and a picture of Jason. He had given
it to her for their first anniversary.

Jason watched as the cab pulled away kept watching. Hoping that it would
turn around and come back. After 5 minutes he turned around and leaned his
back against the window and slumped down and realized that he'd never felt
so empty.
Ever After - Chapter 6

3 weeks have gone by. It's Friday morning. Later that day the children would
board the ELQ jet and meeting Jason in Port Charles for their first visit.
Caroline had refused on letting Jason come to New Jersey to meet the kids.
Every night, since they left, at 7:00 the kids call Jason. Everytime he'd talk to
Michael than Lilly than Jason would tell Lilly to give Caroline they phone.
Lilly would hand her the phone and she always hung up.

It's now 3:00 and Caroline was sitting in the kitchen with her friend Isabella.
They were sipping cups of tea. Waiting for the children to come home. The
plane would be there for them in an hour and a half. Caroline looked very
distant, and that's because she was. She was off, far far and away with
memories of Jason, her and Jason, her family.

''Caroline?'' Isabella said waving her hand in front of Carolines face. ''Earth
to Caroline.''

''Oh, sorry.'' Caroline said breaking her trance. ''I'm here, I was just....''

''Thinking of Jason.'' Isabella finished her sentence ''I know, it's written all
over your face.''

''I just can't help it. I miss him so much. I.....I, well I...''

''Despite everything you love him.''

''Always and forever.'' Caroline concluded and than gave a light laugh. ''God,
we have been spending too much time together. You're reading my every
thought.''

''It's been that way since we were little.'' Isabella said with a smile. ''Me you
and Carly. We were the three Musketeers since we were 6.''

''Yeah, then Carly died, you went to college and got married to Tom and
moved out here. I went to get revenge on my birth mother, found love,
struggled for love, got love, lost love and came out here to see my best friend
and heal.''

''And you're best friend is so happy to meet her best friends children and
catch up on old times, but..'' she placed her hands on top of Carolines. ''I
wish this was under better circumstances.

Caroline nodded and said ''Me too.'' as she stood and walked to the
window and looked out. ''I just don't know what to do, I'm so confused.''
 

Jason stood looking out his window and he heared Justus voice behind him.
''Jason?''

''I bet she's looking out her window.'' he said. ''She always looks out the
window when she's sad, or angry or confused.'' He gave an ironic chuckle
and turned from the window and walked toward the stairs and sat on the
bottom stair with a grunt and put his head in his hands and said. ''And I bet
she's feeling all three because of me.''

Justus gave him a pitifull glance and sat down next to him and offered some
words on encouragement. ''You made a mistake. I know how much you love
Caroline. And deep down, she knows it too. Just give her some time.''

''It's been three weeks Justus, and you know what the worst is?'' Jason
asked looking up to look Justus in the eyes. ''It's not JUST that my heart is
breaking, it's that I know her heart is breaking. DAMNITT Justus!'' He
stood up and walked to the dining room table and put his hands on the table,
arched his back and put his head down. ''Her heart is breaking and it's all my
fault. I Love her SO much, that the last thing I ever wanted was to hurt her,
Hell, I made it my lifes goal to shield her from pain, and here I am causing it.
I just want to hold her Justus. Take her in my arms and kiss away the pain.
I'm a horrible person Justus, scum of the earth''

''No.'' Justus walked up behind him and put his hands on Jasons shoulders
and said sympethetically ''You're a man who made a mistake. A bad mistake
that hurt the woman you love.'' Justus's cell phone ran and he picked it up
talked for a moment and than hung up. ''Jase, the plane landed, and the kids
are boarding. They'll be here in an hour. I think it's good that you let Emily
and Nick go and meet them.''

''I didn't want the kids alone on the plane.'' Jason said lifting his head ''I'm
just happy that Emily's talking to me. Not that she wasn't plenty mad at me at
first, but she came over one night & I was going crazy. Throwing things,
screaming. It was bad. She took pity on me I guess, but everyone else? If
looks could kill, I'd be 10 feet under.''

A deep voice made both men jump as they turned to face the handsome man
in the staircase who said ''Well, that's why I'm here. To protect you from
those deadly glances.''

''Sonny.'' Jason walked to him and the two friends hugged.''What are you
doing here?''

''Well, you sounded pretty crazy on the phone so I thought I'd come to help
out, especially since I knew having the kids here would bring back lots of
memories.'' Jason nodded and Sonny nodded to the couch and said ''Did
you.....''

''Yeah, it's new.'' Jason interrupted ''I ripped the old one to shrewds,
litteraly.''

''Jase, you look like hell. When was the last time you slept?'' Sonny asked

''The night of the nurses ball. The last night I had Caroline.'' Jason replied
sadly

Sonny nodded and pat his friend on the back and asked ''So, when should
my namesake, and god daughter be here?''

''An hour'' Justus said

''Well, that's not enough time to get you caught up on a month of sleep my
friend, but go upstairs hurry and shower.''

Jasn nodded and slowly climbed the stairs. Once out of sight, Sonny took a
deep breath before turning to Justus. ''Man, he's beating himself up.''
''Along with the whole town.'' Jutus replied.
