FRED WHITE
February 18, 2004
Fred White passed away after losing his battle with cancer in his home state of Wisconsin at the age of 85. He lived in Sun Prairie at the time of his death.
Fred played on a Clermont senior softball traveling team while living in Leesburg. In 1986, he moved to Winter Haven.
With the help of the Winter Haven Department of Leisure Services, Fred White organized a senior softball traveling team from the local area. Soon afterwards in the same year, he founded Winter Haven Senior Citizens Softball Club, which was the original name of the current Winter Haven Senior Softball Club. The program began with somewhere around 35 players but grew steadily over the years.
Fred White was inducted into the Florida Half Century Hall of Fame in 2001 and into the Polk County Senior Softball Hall of Fame in 2003.
