I call these my "Lazy man's Christmas cookies", I love sugar cookies, but HATE rolling them out! These you sprinkle with the colored sugars, so the kids love them, but they contain powdered sugar in the dough, so they
are light, and airy, and buttery, and oh so good! Needs a big glass of milk to wash them down with! :-)
1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
1 tsp. cream of tartar
1 cup butter (I cheat and use margarine)
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. salt
1 egg
Combine on low speed for 1 minute.
2 1/4 cups flour
Add gradually, blend at low speed.
Chill dough about 15-30 minutes before shaping.
Shape into 3/4" balls, place on greased cookie sheet about 2" apart.
Flatten with fork. Sprinkle with colored sugars.
Bake at 350º for 5-8 minutes.
Let stand on cookie sheet about 1 minute.
