Mix shortening, sugar, and egg. Add juice and rind. Add remaining ingredients, mix well.
Drop by rounded teaspoons 2 inches apart, on ungreased cookie sheet.
Bake at 400 for 8-10 minutes. Cool on sheet for a few minutes, then transfer to wire rack.
When cooled, frost with frosting.
Tip: For darker orange frosting, mix food coloring in with orange juice. 2 drops of red to 1 drop of yellow, makes a deeper orange.
