4A2Q Thank-yous
4A2Q had no sponsors - only a small group of organizers, assistance from the
local authorities, and everyone who showed up at the site for this weekend of
fun.
4A2Q organizers
There were 3 guys who took the time to secure the operating location, and plan
for this weekend of fun:
- XE2ABB - Manuel Rios Grijalva, of Ciudad Obregon (Sonora)
- XE2VAS - Vicente Uriel Martinez Garcia (call him "Uriel"), of
Nogales (Sonora)
- XE2VJM - Jesus Francisco Meraz Flores, of Hermosillo (Sonora) and
Imuris
In addition to these 3, special thanks has to go out to Gerardo Varela, XE2Q,
of Hermosillo (Sonora). Gerardo filed the paperwork to modify his call
to 4A2Q for this weekend
and make it available for the group to use over this weekend. He had to
provide 2 letters - one requesting the special call with the list of authorized
operators for this weekend, and the other to formally accept responsibility for
operations at 4A2Q if the authorization was granted by
CoFeTel
(Comision Federal de Telecomunicaciones, or Federal Telecommunications
Commission - Mexico's counterpart to the FCC in the USA).
Local authorities in Imuris
4A2Q also had the assistance of the local government in Imuris, as well as the
emergency-service auxiliary, known as SAE (Servicios Auxiliares de
Emergencia) - whose facility was used for the gathering and main operating
positions. The presidente municipal ("municipal
president" - basically equivalent to a town or city mayor) of Imuris, Mr.
Roberto Gamez Romero, came out to the 4A2Q site on Saturday afternoon and spent
the afternoon and evening with us. The jefe ("chief") of
the SAE, Mr. Pedro Villa Ochoa, was with us the entire weekend - except
when he had to go out in his truck to answer calls. Having the
cooperation of these people helped us with the authorities in Mexico City to
get the special call for the weekend, and definitely helped with the success of
the 4A2Q weekend.
Other helpful people...
- Gary N7GJ and Morgan WW7B, of Ham Radio Outlet in Phoenix (Arizona) - they offered some
price breaks on supplies purchased in advance of the 4A2Q weekend, plus advice
for trying to operate 6m from Imuris
- Rod EA7JX of www.qslcard.org, for the 4A2Q QSL
cards. Great prices, nice cards, and excellent service from
Spain!
- People who included extra "green stamps" with their QSL
requests - this was not requested by 4A2Q, other than a single US dollar bill
to cover return postage for those non-USA stations wishing to receive a 4A2Q
QSL card, but any extra is much appreciated. Those callsigns are (in no
particular order):
- KD7OWN
- WA8SWV
- KG4TKI
- W4RBO
- XE2MZS
- WA9PWP
- W8GEX
This page will be expanded, as information regarding the attendees at 4A2Q is
compiled in Mexico and forwarded to the 4A2Q webmaster (WD9EWK). If you
have further questions, please contact 4A2Q by e-mail.
