Rocina and I got home from hospital today, Hannah and Mitchell came racing over to the car to see her, not so much me, lol.
Anyways, here is her birth story. I have to get it down now before I forget parts of it, lol. I went in at 6am and had some monitoring, before the nurse put the gel in at about 6.20. I walked and walked and walked, getting monitored every hour. Rocina's heartbeat was always great. When the nurses would feel around to see where to put the monitor they would say..."this is going to be quite a big baby!!!" Yeah well!!! I was getting a few pains, but nothing exciting. Dr came at lunch time and broke my waters at 12.40 saying I was only 4cm dilated. I continued to walk and walk. The contractions got stronger and stronger. I had one of those big exercise balls in the labour ward and at about 3pm I decided to stay in there and rock on it as the pains were starting to get quite bad. I did that for about an hour and a half when I felt I needed to push. But after having an internal I was only 7cm, it was at that stage I asked for some pethadine. I didn't really want the gas, it makes me feel strange, so I avoided that as long as I could. Sounds strange I know. The pains were getting unbearable, and I still had the urge to push, another check about 20minutes after the peth showed I was 9cm, with just a bit of a lip of cervix at the top. The nurses got me turned around on the bed so I was squating. I was getting rather noisy by this stage, I just felt like I was going to bust with each contraction. I stayed this way for 20minutes or so and the nurses made me turn back and get on the gas. They actually wanted me to stand up.....not going to happen!!! Once I started the gas, it was like I wasn't there anymore, it's a weird feeling. I could hear everyone, and tried to do as they were telling me. I must have started pushing the moment the gas was on because the next thing I knew the nurses were saying "we're having a baby here" Once her head was out they took the gas off me, saying we needed to get into control. The contractions stopped, but the nurses were at me to keep pushing as she was stuck. They couldn't get her shoulders out. Mums says you should have seen the force with which they were pulling. Later the nurses said it took 10 years off the lives, they didn't think they were going to get her out. I was being told to push, I was trying, but couldn't as I didn't have a contraction. They layed me flat in the bed and then another contraction came and I pushed like I have never before, and out she came. Thank God. I only had a small graze, no stitches, which was more than pleasing!!! The nurse guessed that she might have been about 8 1/2lb, but when she picked her up, said "oh no she's much heavier than that" They told me 10lb, but they were a 1/2 ounce off on the chart, lol. When they put her up on my chest, she was so blue, and not making much noise, I was a little concerned, but she's just been through a lot!!! Her apgars were 7 and 8. She still has some bruising under her eyes and some swelling, but other than that she's just beautiful. I am so lucky. I can't believe I have 3 beautiful children now. I am now 110percent sure though, that Rocina will be the youngest child!!! I can't go through that again. I was walking like an old woman the next day, my muscles, down there, were so sore. I was also sore in the chest??? I'm feeling much better now, still sore muscles down there, but heaps better than Wednesday, lol. Oh she was 55cm long and had a head circ of 37 ;-) I think she looks just like Hannah did when she was born, only a little bigger, lol. |
